free content for your station thread

I know i used the four letter word FREE, but lets face it most Low Power and or Internet stations are run on a "shoe string and a dream".... building antennas and transmitters, using old computers and recycled equipment for the station.... so FREE is a great thing for us. 😆

OK, I have been looking around for some time for content for my station.

What i use for a resouce for good music in any genera i like is garageband.com, there are a lot of tallented musicians on this site all sorted by genera and popularity by listeners.. i get tons of great fresh music from here.. I also ask local bands if they would liek some air play.. most jump at it and unload every cut they have on me.. I listen and select the ones i feel are the most commercial..

One other resouce I was turned on to but never found what i was looking for was podcasts, get permission to rebroadcast.. Great ide bringing podcasting to many more listeners and demographics... Very Cool Idea but havnt found any i would like to air yet.... Any one doing this?

What I have really been looking for is news, like on the hour news or weather.. or other ways to get "LIVE" content like morning shows ect.. that I can downlaod with a script and them tell SAM (automation software) to play on the hour or at certain tie of the day.. it gives a good reason for listeners to listen and a pro big station quality..

Also one im up to full speed i would like to publish some of our shows for free syndication for intrnet and lowpower station

I know where i can get some of this content but reairing it is prohibited.. I want to be legit here..

So any one got any great free resources for this type of content.. If so Post here

We had an article on the blogspot that has been quite popular

Station Content[/size:0faa746787]

Podcasts - permission likely required, sometimes granted[/size:0faa746787]

Also, try our Massive Links[/size:0faa746787] page in the library, which features a show prep link set

For those of you that are into Free Speech and freedom of expression, and freedom from exessive government control.. and just plain good old talk radio.

I Asked Free Talk Radio, and explained bout part 15 radio, asking if I could re-broadcast there live stream, they gladly granted me permission and even want my web site and station information and demographics to post on there affiliates page.. There very responcive to welcoming syndication.

Found them through there podcasts Number 1 to 3 on Podcast Ally depending on the day, and they stream 6 days a week from 7 to 9 pm CST.. Live.. I siply added a scheduled event with the URL of the stream and, automation picks up there stream and plays till they go off the air.. then automation kicks back in..

I found this place for a live updated weather feed..

http://www.pirateweather.com/

Use Podcasting software to pull the mp3 file for your location to you pc and use your automation to play it back whenever you please...

I schedula mine for 10 minutes past the hour ever hour..

This podcasting for source materials works well, I have done it for my other feeds.. The only ones i need to add further scripting for is for ones that dont name the file the same every time.. so in that case i wrot a BAT file to rename *.mp3 to content.mp3 after my podcast software pulls it down.. then at the end of the hour i have another BAT file to delete content.mp3.. then in a few minutes newest podcasts will be downloaded and renamed and deleted.. on an on ..If the file isnt there the automation simply skips over it, I had to work out the timings a bit at first as i ended up renaming the file while it was downloading.. thus currupting the file.. but other than that its super easy and reliable... been running for days with weather every hour onthe hour with no problems.

Yes its a computer voice, that says the weather, but it has all towns in it.. if they have a zipcode.. And its free and it obviously is for "Pirate Stations" 🙂

I hope the Site updates there voices to ATT voices there so realistic.

Jason

I found these guys and emailed them. This is what they said..

http://www.talkstarradio.com/

Hello Don,

"There is no charge for any of our programming. It is provided to stations on the basis of them taking five minutes of each hour for local sale and we (the network) takes five minutes for national sale."

"At any rate, unless or until a licensed station in the area took on the programming, we would give you permission to rebroadcast any of our programs, including Mr. Harder from our internet streaming feed."

I suggest listening to them and form your own opinion. Seems like a great source of "fill in" for daytime programming while at work.. 8)

I'd like to thank Jason (Ebacherville) for pointing me to this great website. To all of you looking for free, quality programming for your station, Free Talk Live is available.

You are encouraged to run the show live Mon-Sat 8p-10p ET, but if you want to air our archive .mp3s, you're welcome to do that as well.

Get all the detail at http://freetalklive.com

If you decide to air the show, shoot me an email at [email protected] with your station info so we can add you to our affiliates page!

Thanks!

Jason

I got a responce, He said tATT voices costed way to much for there budget, so I found another place that the voices are only $30 instead of ATT's at $300, and they sound just as good! I also told him if he was willing to test with there demo voices and confirm that it works and agree to use the voice if I buy it.. I will purchace the voice pack of his choice for his project, he also has a project that reads any RSS feed to Speech.. this could create some good content.. But i have not seen it.. but interesting..

I will post more when I get further responce..

Jason

I got a email from the opperator of Pirate Weather, I pointed him twards same high quality voice samples instead of the mcrosoft sam voice, ATT was to spendy for his budget.. so i found another source that was much much cheaper, He emailed me today and sai that there licencing these lower cost high quality voices and will be implimenting them shortly..

This is awsome news, Live updated high quality sounding weather for your station..

I will keep you posted once its implimented..

I have been rebroadcasting FreeTalkLive now for weeks now on my station, However I have not recieved my AM transmitter yet so it's only on the net.

Mr Klingon, thanks for the permission to broadcast, it doesn't fit my station format but may fit others stations.

Keep on searching out content and posting it..
