Many legends have arisen about this gentleman--some of them true, and some not. KENC has been off the air for years, but Ken is still broadcasting, right now on KMUZ, a 32-watt streaming LPFM station in Salem, Oregon. He has two three-hour shows per week on that station, live 7-10 AM Wed. and Thursday, Pacific time. He still has a Bluegrass format. You can call his show on 503-990-6101 when he is on air. Business phone for the station is 503-990-6091; and e-mail is [email protected]. In case you want to find out what really happened at KENC, contact him and get it right from the horse's mouth!

Appreciation to you Ermi Roos for the good news that Mr. Cartwright is active in broadcasting.

Whatever the story behind his part 15 venture, it is important to find out, so that persistent rumors can be put away.

Any word on how Keith Hamilton and The Rangemaster are faring? At one time Mr. Hamilton posted here, but seems to have stopped about the time his website was reupholstered.

Carl,

About all I can say about Hamilton is that his website is still there, and is not much changed, and that he is ready to take your order.

The toroidal ground choke, which was installed at KENC, and was offered for sale for $95, is still "in redesign, and will be available soon."

The website still has the peculiarity that there is an installation manual link on the home page, and yet another installation manual is a few clicks away elsewhere on the site. Why two different installation manuals are offered is anybody's guess.

I don't particularly find this peculiar, nor uncommon. When you've had a website for years - especially if it's ran by just one individual, it's quite easy for things to get misconstrued, overlooked, misfiled, misplaced over the course of periodic updates, additions and changes being uploaded..
You might go to edit or update one link one day, while not updating it on another page cause you forgot about it - because it was done like 3 years prior!
One link might go to current updated content, whereas the same link on another part of the site go to old content, or 404 page not found..

It's easy for things to get hicups over the course of time and changes.

I doubt there's anything conspicable that an earlier version of the manual can be found laying in some corner of the website somewhere.
It's just an oversight.

Ken doesn't know me, but I'm glad he's OK.

I hope he's happy with the new gig.

As I stated before, and restating again since it was deleted, (pick and choose moderating), if he was a victim of injustice, he would have spoken the truth instead of letting rumor take over.

Now..if this one gets deleted, this is NOT a information forum, but a pick and choose dictatorship.

Good grief.. I agree RFB! There was absolutely nothing wrong with what you said - and the reason I recall it specifically (other than the fact you just brought it up -again..), is because upon reading that particular comment of yours a few hours ago, it had influenced me to open a separate browser window and go to archive.org and find where Ken issued his own narrative about what happened in pretty good detail.. Then I was going to come back here with the link and say "look here, he wasn't mum about the subject at all.."

I couldn't locate it, so I didn't comment in reply to your post. But I agree, what you just re-posted above is exactly what you had said the first time, and there was nothing about it in the slightest which could have been considered offensive.
WHY THE HECK THIS POINTLESS CENSORSHIP??

I had one of my post removed shortly after I had made a while back which concerned a particular person, but that situation was different.. not that I didn't feel my comments were true and valid; but because it could easily considered offensive in nature(though accurate) to an unnamed individual.. but I let that subject drop before it gets me started again.. Anyway, I can understand why mine got removed, and I got over it. --But censorship of your comment was senseless-censorship, and it doesn't feel comfortable to the nature of any discussion forum.

Is it ok for me to point this fact out?.. or do I need permission?

Sigh.. unbelievable.

This is the perfect lead in to make a comment about the state of information on the web in general.

There is a modern saying that "information on the web will be there forever". I have found this to be utterly untrue. It is like saying "water in the sink will be there forever".

With extreme frequency I have gone back to a website to retrieve information that was posted only days earlier, to discover that it had disappeared without leaving a shadow. Perhaps this is the nature of moderated sites which are periodically reviewed and culled.

Even the so-called "Way Back Machine" at archive.org contains a very spotty and drastically slim hint of websites gone by.

It wouldn't surprise me to learn someday that the contents of vital data bases are losing digits here and there which will result in history itself being, as it were, eaten away as though by moths.

Recently my entire e-mail cache on my ISP website vanished all at once, and I hadn't selected anything resembling a delete command.

I learned this lesson very early in the game, way back in the 1990s when I composed a bit of computer music as a video score, and then could never find it again.

At least we have radio. "What goes on the radio will be there forever."

This is a private Forum, not a publicly-run one.

The owners (and moderators) of the Forum have the right to decide what is OK on the Forum, and what is not.

You can accept that, or not.

While I have had posts deleted, and agree that it's not nice (you feel somewhat violated), I happen to agree that there has been too much negativity recently here. And not just from one particular individual. I've been provoked a few times and posted things I shouldn't have.

So at least, speaking for myself, no more. I don't disagree with the now-stated rule that this should be a positive place, helping out those who are currently doing Part 15 broadcasting, or want to start. There's plenty of room within that rule for personal opinions and personalities.

While it is best to critique moderation privately via the CONTACT button this is a chance to make an exception.

The intent of the RFB's post was misinterpreted (as made clear by RFB's very similar followup post) by myself and another individual when RFB used the phrase "said person" and it appeared that he was referencing someone other than Ken Cartwright and was suggesting that this person come forward with the truth. The meaning of "said person" was made clear in the followup where RFB wrote " if he was a victim of injustice, he would have spoken the truth instead of letting rumor take over. " in which he is clearly referring to Cartwright. In the first post it appeared that he was accusing someone else for KENC's situation.

Sometimes the written word conveys a meaning not intended by the poster and this happened in this case.

The post "deletion" was not done arbitrarily though some may disagree with the reason for doing so.

Neil

I am sure everyone here agrees with that, but don't understand how that has any relation to RFB's post being removed for no apparent reason at all.

From time to time we all say something we might not should have, and occasionally discussions might take a bad turn, needed to be managed and set straight or silenced altogether. Such is life.
It's perfectly understandable that a post might have to be omitted to maintain the integrity of the forum... But to (in essence) just shut someone up for no apparent reason at all just because you can - it's just not couth.

OK, that's my opinion, and I'm done saying it. Not trying to start an argument or anything, but it did irk me, and felt the need to express a little outrage on the matter.

I made my above comment while you were explaining what happened Neil, so I didn't see it. If I had I wouldn't have posted it.

Radio8Z's "Image Icon Picture", which of course is a transmitter tube, none the less gives the impression of being a giant chess piece: "The Royal King of Crowns".

Oh king, please spare our heads, during these times when so many people are losing theirs.

Wait a minute....... o.k., I've just come to my senses.

Let's hope that after 9+ years of the take down of KENC, that Ken won't mind a plethora of inquiries of a past event when Ken has moved on and let the past be the past.

If Ken was motivated to tell the truth, that would have happened 9 years ago as well, so that today we would not be re-hashing old news and stirring up the hornet's nest.

The contact information provided by Ermie is appreciated. Perhaps my question to Ken will be about his approach to obtain the LPFM license. That would be well worth asking, and perhaps less intrusive and help prevent from re-opening old wounds.
