This morning a stream link that worked everyday last week completely failed to work and when I contacted the originating station the engineer said "flush your cache".
He didn't have time to explain what that means, so I come here to ask...
How does one "flush his cache"?
"Flush your cache" , to do this, use F5 of your keyboard.
Rob V.
I think he was 'flushing' you away.
Throw your wallet in the toilet and pull the handle.
Neil
Only now I'm having second thoughts.
Pressing the F5 key while a browser is loaded only refreshes the page, cycles it.
To flush your cache is to say you are emptying your browser's history to default, empty.
It depends on the browser on how this is done. Each browser has its own cache settings.
If you are on Windows 10 for instance and have IE 11 This is how you reset your cache.
Open IE and look for the icon that looks like a sprocket.
Click that, choose internet options.
On the general page, choose clear browsing history by choosing the DELETE button.
Another window appears.
Check mark anything you do not want to save, if you save your browser passwords in IE uncheck delete saved passwords.
Just remember, anything that is checked will be deleted from your computer, including cookies and cached web pages. So those will be gone.
Click apply and bam! Your cache is cleared and emptied. Pages will load with all new information.
As for for Chrome and Firefox you have to go to their settings and clear your history from there as well.
Bruce.
The above only applies if you're transferring a file using HTTP and a browser. And I'm not sure that 'flushing the cache' will do anything to a bad link.
What if you're using FTP to transfer the file?
Like I said previously, I think that the engineer was just trying to wave his/her hands and get rid of you.
Sometimes while using Firefox I experience problems loggin into some sites and have found that pressing the F5 key resolves this problem. I have also found that reloading the page using the icon on the right hand end of the address line often clears problems.
Neil
Using Chrome I couldn't get updated pages to show the new info. Refreshing the page did no good. I had to go into settings and manually delete the cache.
