We here at Dog Radio Studio 2
which to inform you that we will
be on the air during the entire
hurricane event as it comes through
Connecticut.

We do not stream on the internet,
but if you are within 200 feet of
our FM transmitter location please
tune in on 90.9 MHz.

If you are outside during this
time we recommend you listen to 90.9
radio in some kind of enclosure such
as a small prefab building about the
size of a phone booth, preferably
set down on it's side and anchored to
the ground with large buried metal rods
in cement. Please do not do this in the
middle of the street. In a neighbor's
yard is OK, because it will be raining so
hard they won't be able to see you.

On a more serious note, I am activating the
2 meter, 220 MHz, and 440 MHz ham gear, and
bringing the trusty ICOM IC-720A down from
the attic. What the heck, why not?

There is one thing I wish I could do with my
Part 15 station - and that is stream. Hopefully,
that will come along someday. If I does, then you
guys really could tune in.

Best Wishes,
Bruce, Dog Radio Studio 2

Your pre-storm posting is good, MICRO DOG, because it was part dream, part reality, and we were included within the experience. We are all attuned to the great storm and its threat to such a large portion of the east coast.

IDEA # 3 : Maybe you could post reports here as the storm comes and goes. That would be like "STREAMING WITH WORDS."

Please stay safe, and keep everyone in your house safe.

There are plenty of ways to STREAM for free.

Turn your dream into reality and go world wide. That way I can carry your live reporting of the hurricane while the ants are busy looting your kitchen.

That's funny, I just deleted most
of my message. It must be all of
these ants all over the computer
keyboard. (Not really.)

I think the center of the storm is
going through Virginia Beach, VA.
I'm in Hartford, CT, which is pretty
far inland from the coast, and that's
where people are going crazy getting
ready for this thing.

They evacuated Atlantic City, New Jersey,
which is a really big gambling/partying/resort
area. I guess that's about 150 miles
south west of here. I'm not expecting too
much to go wrong here, but the heavy winds
will bring a bunch of trees down and take
pieces of things and turn them into Flying
Chunks Of Stuff. (FCOS.) Hopefully, we will
be lucky, and that won't happen around here.

I would love to stream, and I would do it.
But I don't have a computer to dedicate to
it right now. I know that you can use a
computer to stream and do other things,
maybe I'll try that some day. I have to
get a bunch of junkers to experiment with.

Anyway, thanks again, and I'll keep you
guys posted.

Hi Guys!

And Hi Barry, it is nice to hear from
you!

We'll it's been about 24 hours since
my initial goofy post.

First of all, from a radio perspective,
it has been fun. Most of my equipment
is 20 or 30 years old, so it all got to
come out into Dog Radio Studio 2. More
about that later.

The lights went off for a second about
15 minutes ago, so I guess we could lose
power.

Most of the people who are really having
trouble are on the coast of CT. Here in
Hartford, there is a LOT of rain. With the
ground saturated, any tree could fall over
anywhere around here, and that's the concern.
I have a lot of big trees
n my yard.

This storm is still a category 1. I do feel
sorry for people on Long Island, and the coasts
of the rest of New York, and New Jersey, too.
And everybody on the east coast that was affected
by this storm.

We have about 8 hours to go. So far no problems.

I did look up some history about hurricanes. Lots
of people in New England and nearby areas know about
the hurricane of 1938. It was real bad, with more
than 500 deaths. A Long Island movie theater, projectionist
and all, was picked up and blown 2 miles down the
raging flood, and nobody in the theater survived.

The scanning receivers I have here are a 22 year old
Radio Shack PRO-2005, a real work horse. I also have
a good Radio Shack PRO-60 handheld, about 18 years old.
My Icom IC-R2 scanning receiver is kept in the car.
I have a wonderful Radio Shack PR0-30 handheld from
1985, which still runs. It is as big as a brick, and
has 16 channels. I also have 2 truly vintage units.
I have a Regency R 4010 handheld. It looks to be
one of the first synthesized handheld scanners ever,
with 10 channels. It works great, and tunes VHF HI,
LO and the UHF band. But the real prize here is a
Lafayette PF-300 analog monitor receiver. It works
very well. It's built like a tank and has 3 SO-239
sockets on the back. One for 30 - 50 MHz, one for
144 - 174, and one for 450 - 470. It has 2 lit
slide rule dials, with blue lights on the band switch.
It isn't too sensitive, but I think it was meant to
be a base station monitor, because of the jacks on
the back for external antennas. It's probably from
the late 60s or early 70s.

I have have ham radio handie talkies that cover 2 meters,
220 and 440 MHz.

I'd better get off. The scanner is reporting lines
starting to come down, along with some transformer fires.

I don't want to loose the computer in the middle of a post.

By the way, all the ants in the kitchen went to Pennsylvania.

Best Wishes,
Bruce, Dog Radio Studio 2

The storm has passed and we are OK.

However, many people in Connecticut are
without power. It's a big number, I'll
have to get it.

Trees could still fall over with the wet
ground. So far, nothing here, but quite
a few in the town.

Thanks for being there you guys.

Many thanks MICRO DOG 2 for outstanding news coverage. As it appears, you were in exactly the right place to provide "edge of the action reporting" without sustaining your own damage.

When you named all your equipment in a previous report, I thought you were anticipating it would all be blown away.

Overall, so far, the mortality toll is relatively small by world standards, since deaths from calamity in other parts of the world often go way into the hundreds.

Stand back from the trees. No time to hang an antenna.

You statement about the equipment
blowing away made me laugh pretty
hard!

I forgot to post on here and tell you that.

Just within the past hour I was thinking back how the trees out in the wet ground were under suspicion even after the hurricane, but since there had been no more storm reports from Dog Studio 2 I felt relieved that the trees must be upright, unless you were being silent from underneath one of them.

Very good storm coverage from you.
