I think we are talking about going
from a house to a dinky apartment.
My eye operations and condition have
cost us way too much money.
I am very sad about losing the capability
of reviving DRS2's outside antenna system.
But I am HEARTBROKEN about the possible
prospect of having to give away the dogs.
The pug will be fine wherever she goes.
She isn't very smart. But Hoover, my
Terrier/Labrador mix, is practically my
best friend.
This is my fault. I should have handled
this better.
Bruce, DRS2
Considering the "through the roof" prices of apartment rent, why not try to find a smaller rental house or mobile home instead? At least those will have a better chance of having a yard to play in as well as a yard to keep the dogs.
Might have to pay a pet deposit and make sure their poop doesn't burn spots in the lawn, but hey, it will be FAR BETTER than trying to cram into an apartment and have to loose the pets, and forgo the chance to build your outdoor antenna system.

This is sad news and about all I can wish for is that things change in your favor so the move will not be necessary.
You bravely contend with your condition and accomplish good things despite it. Keep you spirits high. There are many of us who are rooting for you.

if the dog is you're best friend then you know you have to find a way to the Dog around.
I am very sorry about your situation and I truly hope things get better .
Bruce, DRS2
As the man who has spent more time on the LPH than I have, it is troubling to hear about the issues that lay ahead for you, DRS2.
One thing that stands out is your opening statement "We are going to be downsizing in a year or so."
A year is better than "tomorrow," which would be a real shocker.
"Or so" leaves, perhaps, a little more safety margin. Maybe it'll be two years. Maybe a splendid solution will come along. I am not giving up hope.
There is a joke in Stan Freberg's "Herman Horn in Hi Fi" radio play, in which Herman Horn declares that money for his hi fi equipment comes from cutting off his wife's allowance for new clothes. I'm not suggesting anything.
My way of handling problems probably won't help you..... when I sense trouble I send out for beer. Later, I don't recall having any problems.
Part 15 is meant to be the way to salvation. Maybe you don't have enough faith.
Don't go away.
I know how hard it is to give up a beloved pet. And it's gonna be even harder to give up a favorite pastime such as part 15 radio. I agree with another poster who mentioned getting a mobile home. You would have land for your dogs and your outdoor installation. The only problem would be the risk of tornadoes, which is a bigger problem here in Ohio than it is in Connecticut.
I hope things get better and you don't have to give up the things you love.
Bruce, DRS2
I agree with the others, Bruce, in hoping things are able to turn around for you.
Like you, I also love my dogs, and radio! And am living at near-poverty level. It does limit your options.
I'm pulling for you as well. Don't give up hope.
Alan
I have looked at your links
and listened to your internet
feed. It sounds wonderful!
You are a brave man.
Bruce, DRS2
Functioning OK but under heavy stress.
Cannot sleep. But I've dealt with this
before.
My mind is constantly running financial
numbers and calculations. I cannot
turn the thoughts off. Some calculations
have to be made soon.
There is time pressure here. Decisions
are being made.
Because of other family problems, I have
to do this alone. Because of the eye
situation, I am writing big things with markers
on pieces of cardboard. I am wearing lights
on my head to see.
I think after I get through some of these
major calculations the stress may ease off.
There is a much greater chance that we will
be leaving this location - than - staying here.
I just tore a room apart and made a gigantic
office. It doesn't look very good, but it
will do the job.
I am not getting any comfort from anything related
to radio right now, but I think after I do some
of these calculations for the future and see
better where we are headed, I will be able to
relax a bit, and the radio feeling will come
back. It will probably come back sooner than I
think it will right now.
I have been up since 3:30 AM thinking about what
needs to be done and in what order.
It looks like the bottom is finally falling out.
I was hoping we could hang on longer, but I
don't see it. I don't know where we will end
up or where we are going. I don't even know
what to do with the radios.
Hopefully, I will get my head together soon.
I will be checking in.
In reference to the C-QUAM thread, I decided
to check WLS in Chicago for stereo. 50,000 watts,
890 kHz. The first time I checked, there was
some guy on (around 11:PM.) His program and
general comments made me sick (figuratively.)
I did not hear stereo, but it may have been a
mono feed. Around 4:AM ny time WLS was booming in
here in West Hartford, CT. No stereo. However,
as an aside to this, it may have been a mono
feed, also. AND I think I heard stereo from WLS
the other night. It was hard to tell because the
signal was poor, but it seemed like it was there.
The C-QUAM stereo, I mean.
It's now about 6:15 AM my time. I have to get ready
to go work at the grocery store.
You guys - don't feel as if you have to comment on
this. After all, what would you say anyway?
So far, everything here is "nominal."
Bruce, DRS2
Making the giant sized office was the right move. That's known as a "war room" in military terms..... a place where you make critical plans for dealing with top priorities.
During storms I set up a temporary war room down on the washing machine and while I'm down there I think it would be better with wood veneer paneling, but when the storm is over I get the heck out of there and may never do the veneer.
In the movie "Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind" the Richard Dreyfus guy built a mound of mud in his room because he didn't have a desk.
"In the movie "Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind" the Richard Dreyfus guy built a mound of mud in his room because he didn't have a desk."
I think it would have been better had he built that mound out of the mashed potatoes!
Perhaps the fly would have landed there instead of in his daughter's bowl. 😉

You know, it's funny, because looking
back, I made this last comment because
I couldn't sleep. My comment wasn't
really necessary because I'm sure
everybody gets what's going on.
But I'm really glad for what you said.
Too bad we can't just get together and
watch a bunch of old sci-fi! Bummer,
cause we live too far apart!
Bruce, DRS2
Yes, that's it! It's the
war room.
Speaking of war, you should
have seen my wife when she
SAW the "war room!"
Carl, you must get some really
bad storms if you have to go
down and hang out with the
washing machine.
I understand this.
Bruce, DRS2
