i am by no means a podcast guru or wget guru.
i remember someone here used to download democracy now dynamic named podcast and had a special script for windows task scheduler to tell wget to download the latest democracy now podcast and make it a static file name for the automation to playout.
i have been trying all afternoon and it is making me nuts. i had it working right up till my automation fouled up and i had to redo everything.
now i can't seem to find the right script.
it just downloads the xml and also the democracy now mp3 but i keep getting the media changing error when i go to test it in Windows media.
i can't figure out what i am doing wrong.
Hello Part 15 Engineer.
In reading your situation I am not sure exactly what you are trying to do. I also don't know what "WGET Windows" is.
Democracy Now! comes in video and audio versions, and the video can be watched straight off of their website, different everyday.
At one time I put a link to the daily video version of DN! on my KDX-TV page, but I had to manually update the link daily or it would give people an older version of the show. I never knew a way to make it update automatically.
Still, I manually download the audio version of DN! for daily scheduling on KDX Worldround Streaming Radio.
That doesn't help at all, but the situation sounds interesting and I'll keep watching this thread.
it's an XML rss feed from their audio podcast page. it used to download the latest dynamic democracy now link and automatically rename it to democracynow.mp3 and overwrite with the latest episode each day and the automation would play it out as a static variable duration length file.
for some reason my task scheduler lost the that specific schedule and the code with it.
i am having a difficult time rediscovering the code i used.
I use WGET and Windows Scheduler to download some audio files. Normally works quite well when the file name is always the same.
Seems I have done something similar to what you are describing whereby the file name has to be changed to work automatically in a Zara playlist. Seems I added commands to the batch file to change the file name.
What's the link you are downloading from?
everything is back to full speed except for Democracy Now. not sure what changed or what i am missing.
At one time I used Free Download Manager, I had it automatically rename files via some setting it came with.
I haven't used the software in several years so no ideas as to its current state.
I played with it. I setup WGET to do the download and the batch file will rename the file.
Problem is I think Democracy Now probably uses a date code in their link so the link changes every day. That being the case I'm not sure how that can be worked around. The batch file would have to be changed with every change of the link from Democracy Now.
Put on the thinking cap...
for some reason my task scheduler lost the that specific schedule and the code with it.
Perhaps it's not your task schedulers fault, maybe something changed on their end.. Democracy Now offers the program to new stations FREE for a no obligation trial period of ONE YEAR. After that, we encourage new stations to affiliate with Pacifica Radio, but the program is also available directly from Democracy Now!. The costs are identical and are calculated using a sliding scale based on the station’s budget. http://www.democracynow.org/resources/35/135/Radio_Talking_Points_12_2009.pdf
