So - I saw this a few times while digging through various forums, where people made the statement that it is prohibitively expensive to get a transmitter FCC certified.
I can tell you from experience that the cost is in the testing and qualifying. The actual FRN is free. But what is the cost? Well, if you have everything perfect, and the qualifying test lab passes it with no modifications, it is about 3000.00. This includes submission to the FCC and having the lab file for your FRN or Grantee Code.
The stuff I did came in at 2800.00
So, to the average dude/dudette who is tinkering with part15, it is certainly expensive. For someone who plans to do this as a business, not so bad really.
However, with the FCC Certified transmitters out there already, and the price points (95.00 for talking house 5.0 right now) up to a grand, theres a transmitter in everyones budget.
So... theres that...
Somewhere I heard the cost for getting certification can top $10,000.
I could be off by a few dollars.
No where near that.
