IF AM wasn't all snap crackle pop BUZZ BUZZ I'd consider it. I do like the wire antenna it comes with and the fact I would not have to connect it to an outside antenna and have a grounding pipe or rod. But how far could I get this thing to go? Would I have to try and make it carrier curent if I wanted a mile range? Still looking at part 15 FM but may look at this if someday the FCC forces all manufactures of AM Receiver's to filter them so they are as good as a Blapunkt or other German AM Receiver. USA receiver's except for car AM Radio's all suck and should be all out outlawed to sell here.
I've seen this too, don't know if it's acceptable in the USA due to the variable tuning. Also keep in mind that it's pretty much a guy's science project, just out of beta -- it's a new piece of kit on the market, so factor that in. Not to cut the unit down, the guy's dedicated, but it's new.
I think that C-Quam is a good idea, if your studio is already set up for stereo sound especially. Someone here said newer 'HD' radios with AM have stereo chips in them in some cases, and some older car radios have C-quam stereo sometimes, so there's a chance that someone will hear a signal in stereo.
In my experience, the newer car radios should be made illegal, it sounds for all the world like when you go hands free on your phone by BT and listen through the car's audio system, stations sound telephonic. Maybe not all cars, but the newer ones I've heard. Now in an older Crysler truck or something, the stereo sounds great, nice and wide, treble is heard, and even more separation than FM for some reason, and good bass.
I don't know what happened to the filtering, the FCC gave the command that AM radio sound was to go out to 10 khz decades ago, but radios seemed to get way narrower after that. It's like the radio companies interpreted the narrowing from 15 khz to 10 as a signal Americans didn't care about am any longer, so they made trash tuners, covering the faults up with more audio filtering. If the filters are so strong, you can't hear the defects and distortions in the sound as much.
Since the majority of people here seem to go with AM thought this may be of interest....not to me especially.
Yes AM sucks because the radio manufacturers don't care about it other than car radios unless you have a sangean(ccrane cc radio) or an old GE super radio.
As for the noise interference you can't filter it out.....the electrical noise is amplitude modulated, same as the audio. FM audio is frequency modulated so can be separated from the noise.
