CHANGES COMING: PLEASE READ!

In the second week of January, Part15.us will be changing it's backend software. The current system is unable to fill the needs that we have, and unable to meet the requirements for future expansion.

What does that mean to you?
1) Your accounts will be migrated over. No need for anything on your part.
2) The forums will be migrated over.
a) We *may* lose some of the titles.
3) The links database will have to be rewritten for the new system, so we may have some layover on that.
4) The Library will turn into "books" and be easier to use and better indexed.
5) The stories archive will be migrated over.

Now, it will look completely different, there will be people who are unhappy with the migration, and others will be so-so with it. The only thing I can be sure of, is alot of folks will want to complain about it.

SO: Here's what you can be ready for - navigation is going to be different, things aren't going to be where you are used to them. I will try to make the migration painless, and I really do want to hear CONSTRUCTIVE critism. If you complain about something, then please be ready to back it with a suggestion on fixing it. A complaint without a suggestion will result in the complaint going to the "DOOFUS" page that I plan on having on the new site 🙂 Note: Suggestions of "switch back to the old way" will also end up on the "DOOFUS" page.

...I expect some of the smart masses will probably send in goofy complaints JUST to get on the "DOOFUS" page.

🙂

mlr,

Please try your absolute best not to lose any of the old posts. There is a wealth of Part 15 knowledge and experiences there!

I don't know what the recent changes were but this site takes forever to load for me. Just a month ago it was all good. I hope the upgrade allows for faster opening.. (I'm a poor soul on a phone line..)

As for what Phil said.. I agree totally..

Hello mlr,

I think you'd better to improve the security of your website. It's very sad that someone decided to hacking. It's a second time since one or two months ago that this website is hacked.

I agree totally with PhilB... Please try your absolute best not to lose any of the old posts. If it's not possible, i'll make a copy and paste of every posts here and i will save all them on CD.

Finally, i congratulate you for your fantastic part15 website.

Best wishes!

Regards.
Yves

Hello mlr and all,

Just curious if the announced changes have been made early due to the hack or if more are coming.

I really like the new format, and the site is a lot faster. Congratulations and thanks to all who fixed and improved it. Now, let's get busy using it.

Neil

Neil-
the 'attack' forced us to upgrade early... we didn't want the website offline for too long.
There's not much else of major importance will be added in the near future, but new features are definately on the horizon.
thanks for the good words!
-steve
