... It marks a man lacking a peer group ...

I expect that Mr Blare and I both have peer groups, but probably having few members in common.

Unless you have a Potomac FM 71 FIM and data screen your measurement is only a guess.  Still stock mode of the Whole House FM transmitter 3.0 has better range than the 2.0.  So much grey area here.

At these power levels, yes, "most miniscule" would be accurate.  Unless someone was monitoring and waiting for this "test" I seriously doubt it would be noticed by anyone.  And this was a short term "test", not a continuous "Pirate" operation.

Let’s take a typical FM station that radiates 70,000 microvolts per meter at 1609.344 meters (1 mile.) At 3 meters you could cook your hot dogs.  At 80 db. harmonic attenuation (as called for by FCC), this station will radiate approximately 7 microvolts per meter at 1 mile on the second harmonic. Extrapolating that for a distance of 3 meters it's still a considerable amount greater than 4X Part 15.239 Fs level.

Yes Rich, it is a violation just as a child stealing a single yellow M&M from a penny candy store.  At most the store owner might frown but certainly not fine the child $10,000 per occurance.

I can appreciate your concern for our well being but it is annoying at times.  Even so, I can find the humor in it.  I really do admire the position you take.  Rigid...

Ever since I posted the proposal for CLPFM, I've posted numbers about how low we actually have to get the power down to in order to cover a certain area. However, those numbers, while accurate, are on paper. It takes real-world testing in order to build a case. So, how can we educate ourselves without testing for a short duration?

I'm not gonna say any names here, but I know Radio broadcasters (Pro ones) that started part 15 FM stations “slightly over” 15:239. I'm just saying just FYI!!! Saying and doing is two different things. I totally agree about testing. And if you show we know what we are talking about we have a case for the FCC. Now if your really paranoid I suppose you could rent a ship and go 5 miles out to international waters and test your transmitter. Or rent a time share and go to a resort in New zealand and test a FM Transmitter. The ALPB would have to pay dues so the experimenter would have enough financial resources to pay for a trip to a country that allows 1 Watt so you can test.

That said we are not pirates we don't run a Watt or over and I've found out some things from a pro broadcaster but I really can't say too much only that there is a fudge factor and rather or not your getting a complaint. As KEN FM said in the youtube video we're not doing drugs, we're using empty FM frequencies and trying to be clean not causing interference. We can recite part 15:239 all day long, but unless we have a Potomac FM 71 FIM meter like the FCC uses and know how to calibrate that mete3r we have NO RIGHT to accuse anyone of any crime such as “Piracy” unless you know the station is causing harm and the operators were told there is an issue and the operator refuses to rectify the situation. I know rules are rules but again I know not every pro broadcaster is dead set on killing part 15 or micro broadcasting stations. Some have done it themselves and some have reported their FM signals went a mile. And someone PRO did say something about a quirk in the law on the ALPB facebook page. This may have been how SainSonic has the AX-05B certified and it has the range. The more we learn about part 15 the more I have seen grey areas in the rules in the USA. The trick is to get it in stone that it is legal for the ¼ to 1 mile or 2,000 feet or just under it. The object was to get the field strength we need for a Stereo signal up to ¼ mile to a Digital boom box. This will require real world testing. Without it your like a blind man driving a car.

Too much emphasis is on Pirate Radio this and that and FM not having any usable range. But I'm also learning not all pro broadcasters are anti FM and I've been told they did push the micro broadcasting signal a tiny but and went a few blocks for several years on FM. But and the big but is you do take a risk IF YOU DO IT especially near New York, Connecticut, New Jersey and any metro city. Again FYI only and for educational purposes only what you do with the info I'm giving is up to you. But I do feel we should not be so ready to pull what the other website did or we are not any better than them. There is a difference between a hobbyist and a Radio terrorist or punk. I don't feel Carl is any one of these and I am sure if a station called him and said “Hey your cutting in on our broadcast, Stop it!!” Carl would stop the tests and figure out another way. I don't see anything improving FM here unless we Show them there is not going to be an issue. So sorry if any disagree with me I suppose you have that right to do so but again for years I've played with FM Transmitters way before I knew anything about part 15 you can use the imagination from there. We're just trying to legalize what a few are already doing and that is a usable Range for a neighborhood Radio Station reaching a subdivision or few city blocks. OK enough ranting. You've been returned to your regular scheduled part 15:239 lecture.

In post # 31 Mr. Rich conjectured:  "I expect that Mr Blare and I both have peer groups, but probably having few members in common."

That would no doubt be based on cultural differences. I must admit I never go bowling or square dancing.

macdev the driving test to observe the Canadian BETS FM setting is on for tomorrow, Friday, July 10, 2015.

"Carl's FM Laboratory" has moved to the ALPB website in the forums section:

macdev I just realized that tomorrow and Friday, July 10th are two different days.

I have a schedule conflict on the real tomorrow, so the car test will probably be on the other one, that is, Friday, July 10th.

When you do the tests for the members of the ALPB could you record it or put it on Youtube or maybe yet an FTP server for only members so a troll can't try and narc you out?  We need to hear what it sounds like as you drive so we can experience it with you as to what type of field strength it would take for 1/4 mile.  I sure hope maybe we can get closer to it with the 1,000 uVm @ 3 meters, but too that may still be too weak.  We'll see.  If you can't do it I understand but I'd just love to see and hear it as you drive around.

Best wishes regarding your test.

I don't know if the test results would

be appropriate for the next LPH, but it's

a thought anyway.
