It slipped my mind to mention it, but yesterday, Monday, August 10, 2015, was National Civil Disobedience Day.
It could have been a day to broadcast on 87.9 or with Canadian BETS FM power level, as activism in protest of opressive Part 15 Rule 15.239.
It's too late now, the opportunity slipped away.
By adding the C.Crane FM2 Transmitter all kinds of complications have arisen.
Look at all these power strips.
Problem is, the wall-wart power supplies take up two socket spaces apiece, resulting in wasted outlets that are covered by fat-butt wall-warts.
I scrolled through MCM's selection of power strips thinking maybe somebody had invented something that accomodates wall-warts without waste, and they have, but those types of power strips have 15-foot cords and cost a lot. Not exactly the right fit.
Also, while one C.Crane transmitter sits on top the computer, the other one will be mounted up on top of the bamboo tripod tower, requiring a 10-foot audio extension. Yet, with the tons of electronic supplies on hand, a 3.5-mm audio cable is not on hand.
Then there's the antenna for the top of the tower, which will be a mid-fed L which needs to be rigid since you can't paste wire to the air. The one by the computer is just a piece of wire taped to a wall. Maybe a length of small copper pipe will work by bending it into an L. But that's a trip to the hardware store, something I never do today; always tomorrow.
So never mind. Switch to slow motion. Think about producing something like WARD 15 Program 3. There. I thought about it.
How do you feel about August? I hate August. I always hate it, every year. September's even worse. It's months. They keep repeating the same ones year after year. Can't we name some new months and drop the repitition?
How do you deal with wall-warts and power strips?
Imagine a small paddle-wheel boat traveling on the Mississippi River broadcasting as she goes.
Wouldn't it be great to organize a big protest march, peaceful of course, protesting the opressive part 15 rules and get national news coverage and getting the message out?
That may be just as good as a petition and they will hear you.
Mark
I'd love to do that playing some Good Album Rock and repetitive message why we should get 250 uVm @ 90 meters or 500mW on blank frequencies for FM and maybe 1 Watt on AM. AM would be easier to plot the blank frequencies from Florida to the tip of the Eastern sea board where you'd pass Washington DC. A Talking House AM Transmitter with a power inverter or 19 volts DC would do it. A 10 foot antenna on a boat and the water below as ground would make that transmitter go a mile out as your boat traveled repeating the virtues of part 15 broadcasting. However FM would have areas where there is no blank frequencies. AM on 1640 Khz would allow you to go for a while before you had to change frequencies. You would have to stop transmitting every so often to be sure your not going to interfere with anything. It could prove interesting and could get others on board. Even driving around in a car from Florida to Washington DC and have an AM signal or maybe even FM and AM signal but remember you have to be on the ball for FM. People who travel and play with the Radio would hear you. Especially if I took my SainSonic AX-05B put it in a RV and have it running behind the car haling it. Id use a DC power source at 1 amp. While I traveled I would play the best Album Rok and mention part 15 FM as cars travel they would hear my moving station all the way to ¼ mile away. Now in the foothills of KY where there is no station you can receive I'd be a hero on the dial. I'd talk about part 15 and why its a great idea. I'd bet the convoy of followers would grow as I traveled. But when it came time to change frequencies the audience would have to know where I'd transmit next.
KDX has begun a practice of changing frequencies at random in a plan to shake-loose any listeners that might tune-in without invitation.
We have several AM and FM frequencies and even I don't know where we'll pop up next.
The Search Box up above here at part15(dot)us must be broken, because all I can get is a wordy Google 404 Error notice.
I was searching "wall wart" so I could use a previous thread to add to, but I'll have to say it here.
The C.Crane FM2 Transmitter required one more outlet and I'm out. Of the six power strips here at the work station there's no more room for a wall-wart.
I heard about a new kind of spinning power strip that has rotating sockets so that wall-warts don't hog two whole spaces, and I'm going to order one.
What do your power strips look like? Is everybody's power strip situation a mess of warts and coiled drooping wires?
I don't remember where I saw this I think it was Crutchfield but they have these 3-6 feet short cords you can plug into the power strip and then the wall warts. They were made so that a wall wart world not take up so much room on a power strip. Look for 3 foot cord and see what you find. They were really cool and wish I had bought a few of those as I could have used them. Amazon or Newegg could have had them for that matter. I remember I was looking for computer stuff when I saw those.
Now that you mention it I saw one of those 3-foot wall-wart lifyers or whatever they're called. It was afew years back in a catalog.
If I find some I'll try a few.
KDX Worldround Radio is Signing On for Wednesday, August 19, 2015, broadcasting on FM Channel Number 208.
Our Night Clock, a WWV-Like Tick-Per-Second with Time on the minute announcements, was off the air during the night due to a lingering electric storm.
Preparations are being made to return normal AM operation at 1670 kHz. During storms we disconnect from antenna and ground to protect our valuable AMT5000 medium wave transmitter (sstran.com), and will be transmitting a special audio equalized signal to our Sangean U1, to compensate for the radio's excessive bass boost.
Carl Blare, unders orders as his own boss, will be trimming landscape on the expansive campus of the Internet Building, home of Worldround Radio.
Signals at the boundaries of the campus will be exactly right, for listeners crowding at the gates.
New Slogan: Radio from the Edge of Existence
The link I just gave shoulkd be showing a slick audio board from years gone by, but it is not cooperating.
I'll stop by tomorrow and try to fix it, I really want you to see this.
The first time I sat down at a professional licensed station console it looked like this
But that's not what I'm thinking about now.
We talk about electronics, but programming is something just as important, although not addressed by Part 15 Rules.
A significant part of each day is devoted to downloading and organizing the radio programs carried by KDX Worldround Radio, and the usual problems consist of programs with poor audio quality or those unavailable at air time.
The second most frequent programming obstacle happens when we try to produce a radio show while Zara spews out the day's playlist.
There we are writing scripts, recording voice and editing audio when all at once the on-air playlist runs dry.
Damn!
Success can sometimes become annoying.
That picture of that console WOW
What else can I say?
Oh yeah - I bet it was HEAVY.
Broooce, WLP
That Western Electric console was even heavier than it was because it was built into the table.
I swear my BE 8S250 has to weigh 50 lbs and it doesn't have a table attached!
