Is anybody else doing anything special for the Beatles' Anniversary? Today I'm playing all Beatles, all day. I’m be pulling from the entire Beatles catalog; not just the hits, but rare, obscure, and deep tracks too. Over ten hours of nothing but awesome Beatles music. Give it a listen if you aren't too busy with your own station today.
I'll be sure to give you a listen for a while after dinner,. Always been a big fan, but to me nothing of of the Beatles is going to be "rare, obscure, and deep tracks"..
Any chance you ever heard the first time Ringo introduced the first verse of Octopusses Garden then stopped and said "that's all I got.. " From there insued about 2 hours of the four of them working together on the lyrics and melody. I think portions of it are on some of their "Past Masters" releases, but I had manage to aquire about 14 hours of the 1969 outakes a at least 10 years before that.
My copies were on premium quality cassette tapes that originated from the masters.. There was this guy who owned a record store called Graveyard Records and Tapes and I had frequented there a lot, as it was the only place I could find 45rpm records for the old juke box that used to be in my diner (this was before the internet) .. Anyway, he was also a major Beatles Fanatic who somehow had access to all kinds of special items.. That's where I got my collection, paid a couple hundred for it.
Later loaned the whole case of tapes to a musician "friend" I knew and never saw him again.
Anyway, will be sure to check out your show an hour or two this evening
Ya, I loaned some WWII bomber nose art pictures to a "friend". You guessed it, never saw them again.
Sounds like some cool stuff you had there. I've similarly lost some rare material by lending it to "friends" - hence why long ago I adopted a policy of not lending my only copy of anything to anyone. I might make you a copy, but you'll not get your hands on my original 😉
This evening is the big 2.5 hour TV special on CBS for those of us in the states (and everywhere else, I'm sure - after it's aired copies will likely be appearing on your favorite Bit Torrent tracker.
Anyway, you're right, none of my material will be very rare for someone like yourself, but it's much deeper than mainstream radio ever plays. And don't expect any showmanship on this 'show' (you think I can do witty banter and historical anecdotes for ten hours?) . Just between us, all I did was drop the Beatles' catalog into Zara and hit play 😉
I'm somewhere near St. Louis, Missouri, which has almost no history. Two things ever happened here.
There was the 1904 World's Fair, made into a movie called "Meet Me in St. Louis" with Judy Garland, and the Beatles did a concert here in about 1962 at Busch Memorial Stadium, named for the inventer of Busch and Budweisser Beer.
One more thing. Today Worldround Radio is somewhere near St. Louis. That makes three historic facts.
Just between us, all I did was drop the Beatles' catalog into Zara and hit play 😉
That's all that's needed.
