Has anyone tried to get permission to rebroadcast the BBC worldservice on part 15 radio. I cant find anything on their website that would lead me to the correct person to contact. I did find this article from 2003 where a college was rebroadcasting foreign programs. I would assume it would be very unlikely they would be investigating retransmission of their live programing in my little midwestern neighborhood that lacks any real news service, except for at night, when the BBC is aired on the St. Louis NPR station at 90.7, but not everyone is up at night to listen.
In the 1980s a public station where I volunteered got permission to rebroadcast BBC directly from their shortwave transmissions.
In the new age of satellites and internet I am not aware of requirements for receiving permission from the BBC, but at least I can give you another resource for not only BBC, but other public radio program material.
Maybe this site will hold clues about seeking permission.
i have contacted democracy now. i will see what happens with them. i would love to pick up their progressive leaning news cast for my little station. already run bbc world news summary. don't beleieve any special permissions are needed.
BTW: watch todays epsiode of democracy now. the interesting part starts about 17:00 in...

Why in God's name would anyone run BBC? BBC=VOA. They are government run mouth pieces.
Democracy Now is free for use by radio stations, I either saw or heard a statement on their website or within the program saying as much.
I stopped carrying it for a short time, but with so many big news events I brought it back.
WDCX raises an interesting question... of course VOA is just more government propaganda, omission and filter, but I wonder about the BBC. Is it also sanitized for the government corporate complex? Could be.
It is well understood that NPR strains their content through a prism of political correctness.
i'm not sure about bbc anmore but it was well regarded a time ago for being a neutral source of news not leaning left or right. just straight news reporting. i have listend to it and it still seems to be just neutral reporting of some major world events.
i will eventually carry democracy now to suppliment bbc news 2 minute segment with democracy now being my hour long news segment.

Carl, if you listen to VOA they sound the same. Just a different accent.
I am inclined to believe it.
thanks for all the discussion. I have had a successful afternoon. I fired up the talking house transmitter with my 10 meter wire antenna, and Grouded it properly to a water pipe. While the sun was up I was getting out all over the north side of town and fair audio levels. Ive been streaming the BBC and listening to the news. To me the BBC is not left or right, they just present the news, and ive always been a fan of the brittish accent, so its a plus plus for me.
I feel a little safer operating on AM, than FM for some reason, mainly because we dont have but 3 local AM stations in my area, and then of course we pick up two or three from St. Louis during the day.
KMOX
630 am- Bible Broadcasting Network
1190 KZQZ
and occasionallly well recieve a few of the others up there, but for the most part the band is clear during the day.
I chose 1590 as my frequency.
I'm closer to the St. Louis area than you are, and recall having visited Farmington some years ago.
I cannot remember why I was in Farmington, who I was with, or where the heck it's located. I don't even remember what I just said.
Anyway, I also like the British accent. They never sound stupid the way people from Missouri sometimes do, even when they have college degrees.
I am not from Missouri, so it takes people awhile to figure out how goofy I am.
1590 on the dial is good for you, although here we have a station at 1600 kHz, which doesn't seem to reach very far.
Carl, you have a link to that democracy now download? is it a static or dynamic link for the current program?
I think the links are dynamic because they contain the current program's date.
I tried to have the video version on my KDX-TV page, but I had to manually re-fresh the link everyday otherwise it didn't update with the newest program.
This morning I heard Glen Hauser on his "World of Radio" radio show mention that "...the left-leaning Democracy Now is now being carried by the new Global 24 shortwave station..."
I guess Glen got his little jab in there by labeling it "left-leaning." I still don't know what that actually means.
Democracy Now uses a Dynamic File system dnYYYY-MM-DD-1 where m/d/y are constantly changed form day to day. this requires manual downloading and file name change everyday. they are also on Ku/C Bands, i do not have access to either nor does my automation handle sattelite switching that i know of. and finally it's free for the first year then pay to play afterwards. long story short i won't be running DN on the station.
I have crawled all over the BBC site looking for a 5-minute downloadable newscast but cannot find.
Do you know?
