Just wanted to let everyone know that after almost 7 years of 24/7 Part 15 broadcasting, Artisan Radio is going to be taking a break. I plan on doing some traveling across Canada and the U.S., and, unfortunately, there are still no electronic versions of the finger (and hand) to perform power cycles (sometimes in the right sequence), replace PC boards, etc. if things go wrong. And if I can't do things the right way, with the appropriate level of monitoring and response time, I'd rather not do it at all.
It will be the Internet streaming (and web site) that will be gone permanently (or, at least, until things change once again). I still plan on broadcasting on AM and/or FM when I'm around the home base, and perhaps even when I travel (i.e., entertain the RV Park).
The shut off date will be September 2. Over the next few days I will be updating the Archives page on the Artisan Radio web site, so if you've ever wanted to listen in live and haven't had the chance, or wanted to listen to past shows, now's the time.
I'll still be around here on a regular basis, at least that's the plan right now.
I understand why you are doing the road trip.
It is fun and it beats living day to day in one place.
Have fun and enjoy .
Hope to see you back on the air soon.
With crossed fingers I predict that during the time away your love of part 15 (in Canada) will increase to the degree that you suddenly rush back and start it up all over again as never before.
It will become clear that you are hooked, that you can never give it up.
Just wait and see.
Take a laptop along and make some audio recordings as you travel along and put together a travel log show.
Perhaps even upload short segments to the proposed Part 15 Network repository to be used by other stations.
I'll be listening to your stream before
you turn it off in September.
We all feel the same way. Enjoy your
trip and be safe.
You have been and will continue to be
a real asset to the website.
Very Best Wishes,
Bruce, DRS2
MRAM 1500 hit the right note with his suggestion of recording travel logs as you go hither, followed as always, by yon.
In a way there is a perfect symmetry between stationary and mobile, we would all like to be in both states simultaneously.
I once heard of a radio station in Switzerland aboard a moving train. That's what I'm talking about.
Moving while standing still.
Everyone needs a break now and then.
I think that if your going to take a break and do a little traveling, why take the thing your taking a break from along on the break? That's like going on a vacation from work but bringing work to vacation too. Laptops, cell phones, iPad's, I would smash every one of them with a street leveler!
Go enjoy yourself and when it's time, the radio will still be there waiting to fire back up.

Going to miss "the music you've probably never heard". I usually listen a couple of hours a week.
Safe travels.
Hey, thanks guys.
I'm really taking a break from the responsibility (self-inflicted, I know) of keeping up the station 24/7, putting up new shows on a regular basis, working with my contributors to put up their shows, etc. It's a lot of work, enjoyable, but still a lot of work.
I will be taking Part 15 (probably AM broadcasting) along with me, but doing it when I just feel like doing it. The only Internet access I will have will be via 3G/4G connection so it's not likely I'll be doing anything via that mechanism. Although theoretically I have unlimited data (Wind Mobile is the only carrier up here in Canada that offers that), we all know that unlimited really doesn't mean that - it means you can use as much as the carrier wants you to, and then they step in and call it abuse. At least here, in any event.
A travel log is a good idea - I'll keep it in mind.
