If anyone has either SSTRAN transmitter or a Spitfire they are wanting to sell, let me know.
I have an old AMT3000 I'd be willing to let go.
What is a "Spitfire"?
The spitfire is a transmitter built in the UK, its very similar in design to the AMT3000 SSTran.
They almost look exactly the same. Except the spitfire will do Longwave and shortwave as well as mediumwave
Here's a spec/sales page for the Spitfire. Looks great on paper stats and features.
Others outside the US seem to be more familiar with the Spitfire.
See: http://www.vcomp.co.uk/spitfire/spitfire.htm
Also Carl, the Spitfire is the replacement for the Gizmo and Metzo transmitters that were made/sold by the same UK company.
The Spitfire has a good look and price.
"What is a "Spitfire"?"
You never heard of these? I'm surprised! But perhaps when you contain yourself to just one type of unit and not venture out into the wide world of options...that's what happens.
Those Spitfire transmitters are excellent units and work very nicely for the LW bands too. Just tell them you want one for the LW band with AM modulation capability and wala. Great price too.
If only they included C-QUAM it would be sitting in the outdoor backup setup.
RFB
The Metzo and Gizmo are familiar, but I was not up to date with the Spitfire.
Hey, and the LW (long wave) version is good to know about.
Thinking about trying a Spitfire out for second site when we get there. Heck, might become the first station location as the Talking House units minus the ATU are a world of complications and pieced costs.
We need to get a resource area for the repetitive common questions and options for new folks.
Talking House is nice for kicking signal around house, but outside installation, holy hack and RF education.
Yes, if you're going to be the GM and ENG of your station, you'll need to learn some things about radio not to mention audio and programming.
