Any Advise on the Metzo?
I purchased a Metzo AM transmitter because of the reasonable cost and it seems to have alot of features such as audio compression, limiter ect and it was in my budget although I may upgrade to the FCC Certified Rangemaster 1000 at a later time. It should arrive in the next few days. If anyone has any experience or helpful tips with the Metzo, that would be great.
pkradio,
I'm getting ready to put one on-the-air within the next week or so. Make sure you read the CDROM that came with it. It has all the important info you need on setting it up and getting it running properly. Pay special attention to the internal/external ATU portion of the transmitter and that its set-up properly. The audio sounds great with its built-in compressor/limiter! I think it is worth the buy.
Maybe you could let me know how it goes. I'm going to try to set mine up Tuesday. I read the manual and I'm an engineering beginner. Everything made sense EXCEPT the section on the ATU. Argh!
Also at this time I have no external anntenna. Just the wire antenna that came with it. I want to put the x-mitter in my garage where my FM is, but don't think the little anntena that came with it tacked on the inside of my garage will get any signal out at all. I could drill a small hole in the garage wall and run it (or some other antenna)up the OUTSIDE of my garage wall. I'd love to be able to get out a half mile or more although I'd settle for a good 1/4 mile.
The FM was easy. This looks much more complicated.
You should take a look at the WCRV antenna. It's a nice tunable coil antenna.. also remember: The tranny and the antenna need to be with each other, so if you go with an external to your house antenna, weatherproof (tupperware) that tx and attach it to the mast with the antenna.

I used a Gizmo early on, myself, with fantastic results.
mir,
Absolutly correct on the antenna! I've got one coming monday.
pkradio,
Just remember: internal ATU = long wire (random) antenna up to 10 ft.
external ATU = using a loaded coil type antenna up to
10 ft. like mir has suggested.
I will experiment with the different settings once my antenna arrives to get the best combination. I'll let you know the results soon.
