Got her working .. First time it fired right up... Right now I'm just using the wire for the time being 'til it gets a little warmer out and I can mess with a ground mounted vertical. I already have a bunch of radials in the ground from a previous 160 meter vertical antenna I built a while back. The audio quality is very good for an AM solid state setup. I'd like to build something like this for 75 meter AM phone...

Nice work SStran....

I'm sure Phil will like the comment. We all love it!

My 3000 has been mast-mounted outside, running 15 hour days for over 2 years. It's still stable and sounds great. Amazing.

I've already figured out the dip switch layout, and have gotten it up to 1950 mhz. I might get another and use it strictly as an exciter for 160m AM phone. It would be so cool if I could mod one to work on 75 meters. That's one of the few places I miss operating as an amateur, and I recently discovered that a childhood friend is active there now. The audio I hear coming through my receiver sounds as good as any AM tube rig I ever had, or maybe better, since I didn't use much of my studio gear with my old boatanchors.

Hat's off to Phil. The 3000 was the right choice for me.

I have my 3000 mast mounted out in the cold and snow running 24/7 and no problems. It was a joy to build, worked first time and the audio is awesome!I was thinking what a great modulator scheme it was and how it would work on the ham bands as well. Most transcievers out of Japan sound like crap on AM,so most serious AM'ers use old tube type boat anchors for quality AM. Regards and 73,Lee,N3APP
