Can anyone tell me what stations are broadcasting in AM stereo today in 2017? I found some lists on line but they are out dated and I know for a fact some of the stations listed in my area in Minnesota gave up on AM stereo which is sad. I installed a Chrysler AM/FM radio (RAS) in my work area and im not sure the radio was made in 1988, and according to on site all Chrysler radios made with digital tuning can tune AM stereo, but how can I find out for sure ohter than tune in an AM station. I wish I could find more info on the spacifics of the Chrysler radio to see if it was designed for AM stereo, but I must be looking in the wrong places.Any help anyone can offer would be great!

Hi Joe! I was at WZON in the eighties, and we were a Kahn/Hazeltine setup. After a few years, they shut it off. What a waste of money...CRL stuff out the wa-ZOO...and it sounded GOOD! They couldn't GIVE away AM Stereo radios though. All around bad idea...but-

I do wish someone like Phil Bolyn would make a CQUAM AM Stereo transmitter that puts out 100mw and can use a base-loaded antenna. The few AM Stereo radios left are still working! May as well have a bit of fun with it...

I can relate.. I had two  AM stereo radios, the Sony one and a realistic AM stereo tuner, which I still have,  and also had an AM Stereo radio in the car at the time, far as im concerned it was was a fantastic way to broadcast. I never thought I would experience AM stereo but then one day it was on the air! I dont know why stations pulled the equipment, would of it been better to just keep it operational? What is the piolot frequency for AM stereo? I want to test some car radios here to see if they can receive AM Stereo. Im sure i can inject the piolot into an AM transmitter to just see if the AM Stereo light would come on at the receiver end of things. The radios I have here are all Chrysler Car radios from about 88-90 in that time range. According to what I have read on line they are all cabable of receiving AM Stereo, unless they needed a built in factory decoder or that was an option when you bought the car .. I really dont know.

C-QUAM and Kahn use 25hz for the pilot.

There is a station in the next county over that still has all of their AM stereo gear in the airchain, they just leave the pilot off.

I have a C-QUAM homebrew transmitter I bought off eBay awhile back, it can run at 100mW or 500mW. Sounded pretty good on my MCS stereo tuner but I don't use it very much since the Rangemaster gets out much better.

Magnavox pilot tone is 5hz, Khan pilot is 15hz, and c-quam pilot is 25hz.

To get a c-quam radio's stereo indicator to light would require a 25hz pilot tone to phase modulate the carrier, so am modulating the carrier would not work.

Paul.

Hey Paul (Boardmaker),

I tried to email you but no luck.  I have some mods for the TX-11A you might like.

WION AM 1430 Ionia , Minnesota is C-Quam and streams their programming over the internet using a Carver TX-11a Receiver connected to an encoder. What you hear online is what they sound like if you were in their coverage area. Great little station and a fun staff to interact with online at Facebook.

89 WLS is C-Quam stereo,
There are couple stations in the extended AM band above 1610 that use c-quam but their call letters escape me at the moment. KROCKS Zero Point Radio is Carrier Current Am Stereo from Casper Wyoming, they have been a member of this forum for a while now.
Their signal can be heard online as well, fed from a c-quam stereo receiver in the same manner as WION.

I also have the Chrysler RAZ AM ST/FM ST CD/Cassette Receiver i recently pulled from my 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee when i bought a Sony receiver. I plan on building a box to mount the radio in with speakers and a power supply for use in the house.

WLS has just always had it so they never bothered shutting it off. WBAP Dallas was in the same boat until they added IBOC. The IBOC has since been removed but the AM Stereo has yet to return. KLIF and KAAM in Dallas also had stereo back in the day as well, not sure when it was shut off. I assume when they added IBOC as well. (only 1 AM in Dallas still has HD and thats KRLD during the day)

Everything related to KROCKS has been dead in the last 6 months, is he OK? Haven't heard a word from him and all his sites are dormant, no activity.

Bruce.
