After doing some research I found out some more info about linear amps.
I found info about linear RF amps, but I don't know if it would work for AM. I know some Hams use them, but I can't dig up any thing else. Can anybody give me advice. I'm just expermenting with my SSTRAN, not trying to set up a pirate outlet or such.

Hi Travis,
I think you are going to waste your time pursuing this. Linear RF amplifiers are not efficient (35% or thereabouts). You will spend your time more productively with class C high level modulated transmitters. Do a web search and you will see the complexity of these "linear amplifier" units. Keep in mind that the ham operators are not restricted regarding power in the milliwatt range as are part15 users so efficiency is not a big concern.
Also, it would help if you continued your posts on an existing threads so we can follow them better.

Neil, the only problem is I've already purchased an SSTRAN and I am very pleased with it. I'm getting about 1000' with the wire antenna and the ground wire connected to a ground stake. I'd kinda like to keep using my tx.Also, I need to know if I can use a linear CB amp for my SSTRAN.

Hi Travis,
If I understand your last post correctly I would say no you cannot use a CB linear with your SSTRAN. The CB linear is designed to work at 27 MHz., far beyond the AM frequency range.
It sounds as if your SSTRAN is giving you good range. I use a SSTRAN here and am pleased with its performance.
No harm in asking questions or experimenting and I hope my replies are useful to you.

The best thing you can do to improve range and yet remain legal is to upgrade your antenna system. Depending on terrain, soil conductivity, etc., the SStran should be able to hit 1 1/2 to 3 miles to the outer fringe. Once you get that signal out there, maximize your carrier with some good processing. Besides, CB linears are illegal to use and possess, even for CB'ers!
