$4.95 and someone else does the work.... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Pre-Wound-Coil-Form-350uH-Ideal-for-Crystal-Radios-Hard-to-Find-Item-/291499948106?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item43dec0384a
Thank you, good find.
Wondering why the seller says "If I say it shipped it shipped"?
Did people complain that they never received their item?
Bruce.
Don't know. 100% happiness though. 🙂
This is nice for those who don't want to gather the parts and wind their own but it appears in the photos that this is wound using fairly small gauge wire. I wonder what the Q (= losses) is.
Neil
Probably high but maybe lower than the internal devices. Comments?
Maybe I'm reading that webpage wrong, but to me it appears that they are selling the coil form only, excluding the wire used in the coil and the labor to wind it there.
And no taps even if it does have the copper wire included.
Better to make your own with spare parts from around the house and from your junk box.
We all have our own personal junk boxes. I know I do, I used to strip old electronics for the parts. I have several parts organizers full of coils, chokes etc. that I stripped out of old CB radios and other electronics like television sets and oh, those good ole' Radio Shack Goody bags that they sold that were loaded with good stuff that was discontinued. Remember those?
Bruce.
Great for crystal sets. I used one once to
load up a Part 15 AM transmitter, but it
wasn't easy for me. I'm sure most of you
know what I mean. I just carefully sanded
part of one side and ran a slider across it.
It worked, but it was hard to keep together.
It probably had more Q than the internal
coils in the AMT-3000??
You can also put a variable cap across it and
make a little tuned circuit. You can put it
next to a deaf AM radio and the tuned circuit
will get a little more signal into the AM radio.
IF you tune it right. I did that once.
