I keep seeing these ads here for 15w FM transmitters. I don't see what that has to do with Part 15 stuff, but I'm wondering: What type of license is needed for broadcasting ordinary content with these units?
As far as I know, 15 watt FM transmitters have nothing to do with Part 15. Neither do RedVector.com, plentyoffish.com, the SAE institute, the Gizmo project free computer phone, Firefox, free white papers or Blockbuster video.
Those products and services are offered by companies that pay to advertise on this web property, making it possible for Part15.us to serve the hobby community since 2004 - all at no charge to you, the valued user. Because of the support of our generous sponsors, enjoying the camaraderie and valuable information found here has always been available absolutely free of charge.
Our sys admins do such a fantastic job maintaining the systems that make Part15.us possible that it might look like an easy project to pull off. Those of you who have been with us for a while probably remember that it wasn't always quite that effortless - like the two server gakks and the little hack and the HUGE hack and the first bad web host and the REALLY bad web host and, well let's just say we've had our fun!
Because of the financial support of our esteemed promotional partners, we now have a collection of hardware and software running pretty smoothly and we can continue to serve thousands of you each week - and for free!
I personally know of no license of any kind that would permit a person to operate a 15 Watt FM transmitter in the USA BCB but we are a global web gathering place. We have users from around the world and have inbound links from a number of off shore sites.
There are countries that are not anal if you get my drift?
I prefer to use the term "retentive" but yep, I agree
