Don't laugh, yet.
I plan to run the 13.560 transmitter
when 20 meters is open.
Don't laugh. If it skips, nobody will
never hear the audio, but I can key the
carrier, and somebody in the know with
a good receiver and a "BFO" might hear
it at the other end of the skip zone.
You never know.

Now I'm laughing.
I would have to call somebody in
just the right place ON THE PHONE
and tell them.
How do you do that?
Bruce, W 60 HZ
It still needs a lot of
bypassing with chokes and
caps.
It's running a couple of
mW right now. Maybe 5 or
so. It's attached to
a small wire here inside
the house.
Bruce, W 60 HZ
During the design phase of the Big Talker Short Wave Transmitter PhilB ran simulations with a matched vertical antenna, probably 1/2 wave or maybe even full-wave, and determined that 5mW output would meet the field strength specified in the Part 15 Rule for 13.560mHz.
So, Bruce, you sound like you're in the right range.
The Radio8Z Version, with a different buffer/final circuit than PhilB's design, reaches a high output of about 500mW, but of course the only way to make that legal is to cripple the antenna substantially.
Yup, it's running about that power.
It sounds really good.
I don't have to work either job today,
so I've been listening to it all day
long. It a little bit unstable - I
definitely am going to add the bypass
stuff. But sitting by itself not
being moved on the table, it IS
stable.
So, after the other work, I'll have
to get it into a metal box. I think
it will run on batteries for a long
time, until I can build a dedicated supply.
I am really pleased. A whole lot of
people should be thanked for me getting
this far. So I'll just thank you now.
Thank you!
(Sounds a little redundant, huh?)
And, of course, it wouldn't be running
at all if RFB hadn't given me that choke
advise. So thanks to RFB.
And then there's PhilB and Neil.
Hey! Where's Neil? He hasn't been around
much lately...
I don't want to sound like I'm accepting
an award, so I guess I'll just go now. But,
there are other people on the list, too.

I'm listening to the second
harmonic (which only goes about
20 feet) - I have a transmatch in
line now, so the match is better to
the antenna, which is still inside
the house on the first floor. Anyway, I'm
hearing the signal on my
vintage Radio Shack TRC-11 CB. That's
roughly, "channel B," which, on this
particular old radio, is
CB channel 14, 27.125 MHz,
as we know. Amusing to hear
music coming out of an old CB set.

I added some more Radio
Shack 100 uH chokes to the
power supply buses feeding the
different stages. I'm not done, I
will be doing more.
But Big Talker #002 is doing
very well.
Wait a minute. RFB built one
before me... I must be serial
number 003.
Well, anyway, it's doing very well.
Thanks to all you guys.
Bruce, W 60 HZ/X-13
Those bulky 100uH chokes from Radio Shackles work really well across many different applications. I used 3 of them in series once to resonate a 3 meter copper rod...yep for a 219 system.
It was part of a portable 219 antenna system, yep the mobile system I described before. I didn't want a large box making the tripod top-heavy and those chokes made it possible to eliminate the box completely. The chokes were sealed in shrink wrap, one end soldered directly to the 3 meter rod and the other to a wire connecting to the TX output.

One of my projects before
I leave here is a portable
Part 15.219 system.
So you've given me some ideas.

This talk of portable radio stations has stirred some activity in this portable brain.
First comes a memory. Way back in the 1950s "The Jack and Jerry Show" had a station wagon neatly painted as "KWK Cityrama" with a 10-foot whip and a power generator that would stop for station breaks all over town and do interviews with casual passers by.
Since my religious calling is to save listeners by promoting part 15, it enters my mind to find mobile service vehicles and convince them to use part 15 on board to promote their own services.
"Acme Plumbing 1340 AM", "Joe's Painting Rock 1700", "Food Truck All News Radio", "Friday Harbor Taxi Dancing 1650"...... I think that last one might already exist.
Even a speed cop car could have a station.... "Ticket Top 40 Stop Car".
Imagine having to follow behind your favorite station in the effort to stay tuned in.
