I got the base-loaded antenna sent to me last year from the "Antenna Guy," Carl. The 1/2" copper pipe was sent in two sections with a means to connect the two.
I've never really gotten the two pipes to screw together firmly, but enough to stay together.
I've always wondered if this could be why my signal isn't all that good. Do any of you recommend buying a full copper pipe that isn't in two sections and using that instead?

You don't mention how the two sections connect, but you might try using a solder fitting between the two sections, that would assure a better connection. You should probably check with the antenna maker before making any changes to find out how tuning might be affected.
There were two different types of antennas for sale. Is this the one that was cut for a specific frequency? (The coil had no taps) Or, is this the original one with the taps?
this is the multi-tap antenna.
