I don't think I ever realized Richard Fry had a website. In case you don't know, this was the man that completely disrupted the Part 15 AM hobby community about 20 years ago. I remember it well. Apparently he created the site in 2003, which corresponds with when he retired and set out to find something to do with his free time.. and settled into participating in the Part 15 forums.  Fry's  website disappeared a year or two ago after his death. but the archive of it remains. Not a lot to see, it only consists a few of his published papers, a mention of his 8 copyrights and a brief bio, as follows::

http://rfry.org/website2_001.ht m"> https://web.archive.org/web/20230603142426/http://rfry.org/website2_001.htm

1999-Present: Retired from "corporate life," but writing the occasional article for broadcast trade papers, and technical software.

1980-1999: Radio Product Line FM Applications Engineer, Harris Broadcast Division

1965-1980: Field Supervisor, RCA Broadcast field service, Chicago.

1962-1965: Chief/staff engineer at various radio and television stations in Michigan including WJR, Detroit.

He very rarely elaborated on his actual expertise within the forums, except for in this 2008 thread at Radiodiscussions where he responded to Keith Hamilton's implication that he didn't know what he was talking about...

"The same physics applies to unlicensed Part 15 AM systems as applies to licensed AM broadcast stations. And please note that I have operated a legal Part 15 system for my personal use to my personal receivers.

Also, by FCC written and formal examination I was awarded an FCC First Class Radiotelephone Operator License (1959), and have been technically responsible for the operation of a 50 kW Class 1-A (clear channel) AM broadcast station.

Following that I was employed for about 35 years total by the two largest US manufacturers of AM/FM/TV broadcast transmitters and antenna systems, namely RCA and Harris.

Also I hold lifetime status as a Certified Professional Broadcast Engineer (CPBE) awarded by the Society of Broadcast Engineers (SBE).

Many of my technical papers have been published in the trade paper titled Radio World, and technical software I have written and offered for sale has been commercially successful.

So in summary, my comments are not made without the required technical background, industry experience, and professional recognition.

To Keith Hamilton particularly -- as to what I mean by the "considerable" benefit appying to an elevated Part 15 AM setup with a long, radiating path to a real r-f ground, and by what factor that can multiply the field strength of a truly compliant Part 15 AM setup, please download and read the PDF paper from the link I quoted earlier in this thread."

That was very rare, he never emphasized his credentials in his posting, only the pertinent and undeniable physics involved with the topic at hand. He felt no need of self-praise, his objective was only to provide the actual physics in regard to the 15.219 rule. Richard Fry was a genuine expert

This is the man Bill Defelice not only banned from HB and also enforced that there would be no mention of his name within his forums - and if you did mention his name, Bill would immediately edit your post and replace the name Richard Fry with the phrase "a retired engineer with nothing better to do" - or something similar, and for over a d cade often objecting and alluding to him as someone who had to go "stirring the pot"  bringing up what the part 15 AM rules actually legally permit. - Eventually Bill had to cave and admit everything R. Fry had pointed out as accurate and legit (not that he actually ever came out and said R. Fry had been correct all along, but he eventually did conform his site and direction to the actual legalities of 15.219). However, mention of Richard Fry's name continued to be banned on his site until his death. That's why it surprised me so much when Bill himself had posted his obituary, which he probably he was quite happy to hear about

True, for a brief time R. Fry had been banned from every Part 15 hobby site, including here, I used to despise him too back then.. but within a month or two, most everyone reluctantly had to accepted the undeniable fact that extended ground leads actually violated the 15.219 rule we operate under, we had to accept the facts. And all the part 15 forums let him back in and the hobby benefited from his expertise from that point on...

Except for at Hobbybroadcaster.net, who never admits errors and never lets go of his non-valid grudges. -- Ironic as it is, the self-praised site that often touts itself as the only reliable source and all other sites as "spewing misinformation... It is ironic that it is his site that's the most dogmatic of all part 15 sites and the most likely to repress legit information for the sake of his own preferred Rhetoric. That is what makes HB the true unreliable source.

Artisan had the first to post about his demise here, which admittedly had first been announced at HB, and further highlights Bills despise of the man: https://www.part15.org/community/everything-else/richard-fry/
