Ok so for over a year now I have held a license for the GMRS band which allows users to operate 2-way radio's in the UHF band at 462-467 MHz with power levels from 2 - watts to 50 - watts. The idea behind GMRS for those who are not familiar, is to provide short range communications for families and groups to use while camping, fishing, boating, farming etc.Licensee's are usually an individual, for example, the license has my name on it but covers the whole family: mom, dad,son, daughter,aunt,uncle,in-laws,cousins etc. Heck, you can even install a repeater and gmrs user's who are not family members could use the repeater with your permission, repeaters can operate at 50 watts and cover a lot more territory than say a couple of walkie talkies usiing simplex.With all the said, would the FCC have a problem with me using the call sign WQYY for one of my part 15 AM transmitters? No the license doesn't cover broadcasting, the call isn't used by AM-FM or TV stations and I am well aware that just because isn't a good reason.But why not?Barry of 1200 BBRWQYY 664 - GMRS

The FCC rule says "part 15 devices may use whatever name or ID as desired so long as it is not confused with a licensed station.

I figured as much, after some deep searching on google, I have not come up with any other stations out there using the call sign and since I have to use it anyway for GMRS comms, I might as well get used to saying it. Of course, I can't run the station on 664 KHz, that would be weird, not to mention hard for most digital radio's to tune into.
But all I am really after is using some kind of call sign aside from the other station that uses the moniker Blue Bucket Radio on 1200 AM. What i plan on doing is running two formats on two different frequencies, 105.3 FM would be WQYY? and BBR would remain what is now on 1200 AM.
Now if I can get un-tied from all these other commitments. Yeah, not enough hours in a day, right?
I use WAQM which stands for Were Album Rock for the Quarter Mile and I looked in Google to be sure no one else is using that call. Sure enough no one else is using it.
I do try and check from time to time to be sue no other station comes up with that call sign.
The best place to search is radio-locator.com. I did not find another station using WQYY.
