I received one of these as a Christmas gift. Pre-programmed for our LPFM. Pics up our station quite easily 5 miles away.

The nutty things that people come up with. Not to rain on the present you got. It's the thought that counts.

But people bought a pet rock with care instructions and everything in the late 60s so this really doesn't surprise me.

How is it powered and how can you listen to the little screetchy sound?

I've seen that before and think it's cool as.. cool things are. But what I'd like to see is the same thing with a single channel AM, it would make a great promotional item for a part15 station.

You can buy a "real" radio for less than that. A good one too.

Comes with one station only, well it could be my own, guess the station is made to order but if you need to change frequency.......

Yeah, well personally I would never even consider paying that much for it., Nevertheless, it was still was a very cool gift.

Public Independence

Get a jar and build your own.

How do you think they get it to lock on to its one frequency?

As radio stations we're supposed to know something about this stuff.

There's a "blue button" on the circuit board that allows you to reprogram it to another frequency: https://www.thepublicrad.io/faq/

Yes the station can be changed by simply accessing the PCB and pressing a switch until you get the station you want. The hold it for 2 seconds and it's locked.

With the antenna fully collapsed it will easily pick up full power stations 60+ miles away.

Excellent co-channel rejection

The fidelity is surprisingly good.

Powered by 2 AA batteries.

Yes, you can by cheaper radios but don't knock it until you hear it. The radio is completely designed manufactured in the United States as a fund raiser.

Reply to Carl....it's a digital tuner, without a display. The button is the "tune" button.

Capped but not Handy

Thanks to everyone for so patiently explaining to me what I could have seen if I'd looked.

Oh, it is FM!

Well ya, because it was preset for WLSL, an LPFM station.

Oh, right.

Is it in a jar?
