Drawback though is tubes take a lot of power to operate the filaments and they used to have the square 90 volt batteries for the tube filaments and another battery to operate the radio and the battery for the tubes didn't last long and you couldn't recharge. Tube radios had two power supplies.
Most guitar amplifiers and high end hi fi still use tubes today. Something to be said for "ancient" technology.
