It was strange and had me puzzled for a long time. It began while I was moving through the Internet Building, home of KDX Worldround Radio. In every room I had a radio tuned to KDX and was enjoying the fine programming that makes my life so great. But all of a sudden there was a tone. It was an audio tone somewhere in the middle of the audible frequency range, maybe about 1kHz. As I kept moving I heard the tone at all times, it didn't seem to get closer or farther away as I got nearer or farther from the radios. I held a radio to my ear and it didn't seem that the tone was mixed with the program audio. So, I stepped out on the porch and the tone didn't get any louder, which it would do if it was originating somewhere in the neighborhood. I couldn't think of anything other than radio or area alert that could possibly be the source. Until I reached in my pocket. I had a cordless phone in my pocket because I was expecting a call, and the 'ON' button had gotten pressed. It was a dial-tone.
"Oh," I said.
