The year was 1973. I programmed and hosted a daily classical morning show, and was aware that the war with Germany was over since 1945. I knew that Great Britain had been hard hit by German attack, but I had in my hand a fresh album on the London label featuring a British band playing some of the German marches from the war years. I figured that bygones were bygones and felt free to play the marches from time to time. But this unwittingly struck terror into the hearts of some listeners with direct memories of the war, and they asserted influence to have me removed from the job.
