I was just browsing through some of the FCC quarterly totals from this year: I was reading from the https://vermontbroadcasters.org/this-week-at-the-fcc/ site, but of course is the same FCC quarterly reports as sourced anywhere.
Anyway, I wasn't looking for anything particular, but I thought it odd how the total of AM stations seems to both rise and fall every few months.. (FM too, but it's the AM totals that's curious) It just seemed strange to me. Here's from the last 4 quarterly FCC reports
