For a century the control point of a radio station orbited mainly around an audio console and rack containing key equipment to switch audio and transmission elements, but it is fair to say that we have entered a new age with work-station computers taking over the primary control functions. At the center of the computer operator's gear is a hand-massaged heart called a 'mouse' because of its resemblance to a small rodent with a tail. Of these there are mainly 3 types: traditional hand-gripped mouse, track-ball mouse, and new to me, the vertical mouse. In my experience I am dissatisfied with all 3 kinds and could spend time complaining about each one, but instead, let me ask you. What is your mouse experience and why do you use whatever type you use in your work?
I use the normal corded hand gripped optical one. The track ball ones were replaced with the optical ones as they work on any surface not just a mouse pad.
While I primarily use the traditional, optical, wireless, mouse, I actually prefer trackballs. Corded mice are more reliable, but wireless is more convenient (other than replacing the batteries). Essentially, I have corded mice on those computers that I don't interact with very much, and wireless mice on the ones that I do.
I have a BluLogic bluetooth keyboard with built-in trackball that is extremely portable - you don't have to worry about two devices. It's great for tablets and laptops with external monitors.
I've never used a vertical mouse so can't comment on it. Although the fact that I've never felt the need to get one says something in itself.
