Anyone out there routinely listen to 1710 kHz to see if there is anything out there? A Florida guy who operates the Low Power site suggested that I give it a listen. It seems that he's hearing something in Spanish? Sounds like a preacher man.

Comments?

Monitoring 1710

Several times a week we check 1710 kHz here in the mid-Mississippi River Valley but have never heard a station.

It is quiet right now, 8:51 AM CST. Not quiet, really, sputtering, perhaps from someones Christmas lights arcing in the rain. I think that's the name of a song: "Arcing in the Rain".

We also watch 87.7 MHz which for us is a safe white-space reserved for approved wireless microphones. Never heard a station, but with a highway nearby and many Chinese FM modulators out there we could potentially some day hear something passing by.

2-Hours Later

I have stayed tuned to 1710 since my last report, and now become aware that lightning storms have moved into the area, adding to the static.

At first the storms were far enough away to cause no audible thunder, but now we're hearing thunder from inside the Internet Building.

We have closed our transmitters, stream and website servers, until stable weather returns.

There is warmer air moving into the area. It is now 35-degrees here at ground level, today's high will be 43, and overnight the temperature will rise to 49-degrees. Tomorrow will reach a peak in the 50's, then drop rapidly to below freezing temperatures.

About a Half-Hour Later

The lightning abruptly stopped, as if a switch had been turned off at the HAARP Facility in Alaska, their lunch time.

KDX has resumed normal operations, if you can call anything we do "normal".

We will keep tuned to 1710 kHz.

I have heard some Spanish station usually after dark sometimes wiggling in on 1700, it's not always but from time to time, and it doesn't come in very strong I assumed it was from Miami (I'm in Georgia).

Whole Day At 1710

The balance of the daylight became quiet on 1710 kHz, except for a slight fizzing sound from Wi-Fi equipment in the area.

Our recently installed cable modem sent from the cable company puts out louder interference across the medium wave dial than any previous modems, but the internet speeds are much greater than we had.

During the first hour of darkness we heard splash which was coming from a basketball game on 1700 kHz. I believe the station is in Iowa.

Our monitoring of 1710 is closing for now.

Yes it's from Miami. (pronounced MIAMA from Florida Natives to that area)

http://www.radiomega.net/

From radi0-locator:  https://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=WJCC&service=AM&h=N

We pick it up in Dade City well beyond the predicted contour both day and night.
