A story too late for ISS own September newsletter is covered in this brief Radio World article about ISS temporarily providing a 10-watt rental transmitter to KLEM AM1400 in Iowa to quickly get them back on the air after major flooding destroyed their broadcast transmitter.

What's so striking is that the signal of that 10w transmitter produced at 1400kc was exceptionally strong and clear for a good 25 miles!
Presumably when they fired up the temporary xmtr the building was no longer sitting in water, but I'd bet the ground was still saturated plenty, which I'm guessing is why a 10w AM TIS station was able to achieve that kind of range.
Something to keep in mind during your next flood, huh?
Last I recall, KMOX is Saint Louis has it's towers and transmitter located in a low area. They're supposed to be the "go to" station in a disaster. You'd think they would have a better location for a tower but it's got to be somewhere nobody wants to live.
