Over at HfUnderground "The Dood" told the funniest quote, which apparently came from the movie "The Boat That Rocked" aka "Pirate Radio", one which we have all proubly seen:
- "That's the good thing about being in government. If there's something that you don't like, you simply make it illegal."
This makes me think of the Premier we have in Ontario. He was stuck in traffic on a major route here in Toronto where he lives because bike lanes took out a lane of traffic so he just passed a law that they have to be removed and also in that law is the city has to pay for removal and the government can't be liable for any injuries a cyclist may endure riding without designated bike lanes. He thought of everything!
@mark Did he not get a fight from some organization or something? Is this ongoing or is it a done deal?
Wow, just look it up..
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2024/nov/18/ontario-toronto-bike-lanes
....Last month, Doug Ford, the premier of Ontario, shocked residents of Canada’s largest city when he pledged to rip out three of the city’s bike lanes “that are just absolutely insanity right now”.
....The Toronto city council has voted 21-4 to oppose a provincial bill which would grant Ontario the power to block planned cycle paths that remove a traffic lane.
..... “He and others are stuck in traffic because there are too many people alone in their cars and they’re trying to scapegoat cyclists. It’s absurd.”
....But Ford has staked a position that Toronto’s notorious congestion could be eased by more highways and wider streets, and made the argument a key part of his upcoming re-election bid.
@richpowers Done deal. Yeah, some feedback from the mayor and cyclists but he has a majority which is like in the USA a president having the majority of congress the same party.
He can get what he wants passed as he has more seats that the opposition parties. Just as a president can get something passed if he has a majority in the house/congress...whatever it is.
