"It felt fitting to broadcast it into the unknown, into dark matter": Brian Eno to beam his new album into space tonight
Brian Eno and Beatie Wolfe will broadcast their recently released collaborative project Liminal into space tonight with the help of a Nobel Prize-winning physicist.. .. transmitted through a 50-foot tall microwave horn antenna that played a decisive role in providing evidence for the Big Bang Theory. Located in Crawford Hill, New Jersey, ... ... Eno and Wolfe's album, Liminal, is the third in a series that includes Luminal and Lateral, two projects respectively described by the duo as "dream music" and "space music". .. ..
Neither Eno nor Wolfe are strangers to the extraterrestrial: Wolfe has already broadcast a previous project into space, transmitting her album Raw Space via the Holmdel Horn in 2019. ....
The antenna
New album? I assume it is some type of music or audio of some kind?
Had to look up to see what kind of antenna this was, never heard of it.
But I wonder what audience you'd get from broadcasting audio into space via microwaves.
@mark Yes, it's their third album and the second to be broadcast into space. As to why they do it? The only explanation given was because ""It felt fitting" to do so!
I don't know, I guess it's just a matter of being in the right place and associated with the right people at the right time. The musicians wanted to do it and their scientist friend said "ok let's do it" so they did and decided to do it again for their new album too. Must have been some of expense involved though, it can't be cheap to fire that thing up!
