After a New Years Eve artist pulled out, more have started cancelling.
Apparently, at least according to the artists, it has nothing to do with politics, but, in fact, the renaming of the performance venue itself. One (artist) stated that you can't redo history willy nilly - the center was dedicated to John F Kennedy after his assassination.
The acting Director is attempting to blame it on politics, of course, but that does not appear to be the case.
It took an act of Congress to name the center initially; it would take an act of Congress to rename it legally now.
Of course it has to do with politics. The new name didn't go through the proper channels to change the name, and the new name is an insult to why it has the original name to begin with.
"When American history starts getting treated like something you can ban, erase, rename, or rebrand for somebody else's ego, I can't stand on that stage and sleep right at night," Lee said in a social media post."
That's it right there in a nutshell.

You quote makes me recall all the statues being torn down several years ago.. I forget of who, there were a bunch of statues like of General Lee, and other controversial historical figures that had been removed from the places they had stood for many decades - banning of books, etc.
As for the renaming of the Kennedy Center, it doesn't sit right with me, but doesn't really matter, chances are the next administration will just vote to change it back to the Kennedy Center. It was a ludicrous to the even consider the name change.
