I was reorganizing all the individual media files that make up the Teenage Dreams radio shows, and belatedly discovered that I had missed #78 completely (jumping from #77 to #79).
So I quickly did this show to fill in the gap; it's another CHUM chart special, showcasing the songs that made the Toronto radio station CHUM charts in 1958, but didn't chart nationally in the U.S. on the Billboard Hot 100. There are actually quite a few songs, enough so that this was the 2nd show based on 1958. Some years I actually can and will do 3 shows.
In the show, there are a number of Canadian-based artists, as well as foreign ones (the U.S. tended to favor home grown talent, I guess that's a better description than xenophobic). There are even a few artists that you wouldn't expect to show up in a show of this kind, including Elvis Presley and the Everly Brothers.
The show is complete, and will be uploaded to MixCloud tomorrow. So now, I really am at #86, shortly recording #87 which will have the theme of Happy.
It also turns out that I have more than enough themes and songs gathered (whenever I run across an interesting one, I put it into the corresponding theme folder) to make well over #100.
And that doesn't even include the occasional show I do, based on the charts of the various Vancouver Top 40 or Top 50 radio stations of the 1950s and 1960s eras (there were 4, covering from the late 1950s into the late 1960s, when it all went kaput, formats usually changing to talk). In those shows, I pick a date, usually close to the current date (but back in those years) and play the Top 20 songs, and even the Pick Hit of the Week, the song deemed by the particular radio station to be successful. It's pretty amazing how wrong they often were.
