Almost forgot about this.. I've always enjoyed this hour long special of music programming presented by Anthony Holders kids in Stuph Files Special Episode #383 (MP3 download).
I had gave my own review on it about 5 years ago: The Peanuts Gang Part 15 Christmas - No, it is not the Charlie Brown gang, but it reminds me of them, nor does it have anything to do with part 15 except that the Stuph Files program is a part 15 friendly offering, though I should mention that unlike his regular program this special is full of copyrighted music. It also has a few PSA's intertwined during the hour like commercial breaks.
Anyway.. It's Christmas, and this is a cool programming choice.
Ditto That
The Stuphfile with Peter Anthony Holder is one of the always outstanding shows available every week featuring odd news stories plus interviews with colorful authors, performers, and members of the creative class.
The Annual Christmas Show departs from the usual format, but cleverly delivers the spirit of the holiday for the 99% of stations that celebrate.
As a secular station KDX is possibly the only station that bypasses the Christmas Episode, replacing it with one of the programs from the previous year, but we can highly recommend Mr. Holder's offering for everyone else.
Very Good
Great choice Mister Power! KDX has been carrying "The Thinking Atheist" for years, in fact it's on every Saturday. Very absorbing comments and conversations that question the standard beliefs.
Even "believers" could carry this show and attribute it to providing air time to "other points of view".
Seth Andrews, the host, has already done several shows about Christmas, and they are better informed about the history of Christmas customs and beliefs than you'll ever hear in church.
Hey, we are all free to believe whatever we want to believe.
So.. why aren't you airing faith based programming as equal time to “other points of view”?
Wow.... I just noticed I have 160 post.. What happened to the other couple thousand?
Decisions At the Top
Rich Powers asks a fair question: "why aren’t you airing faith based programming as equal time to “other points of view”?"
First off, I am prejudiced.
But second off, KDX extends a generous offer: religious organizations or preachers can purchase prime air time at $250 per hour.
Right wing hate radio doesn't extend air time for "other points of view".
Maybe we could have a single show titled "Other Points of View", but there are so many other points of view, including superstition, psuedo-science, the paranormal, nihilism, new age healing... the list goes on.
Alternate title: "Beliefs and Disbeliefs".
What I would like to see is a program previously described in the schedule for End 80 Radio: "Bartender Stories".
The Bartender Blues Show
Local bartenders tell of some of the trials and tribulations that come with the job as well as the crazy things they have to put up with. There are many tricks of the trade involved in the bar business that only the experienced can know. Perhaps a few insights of behind the scenes operations, activities, and interactions may be revealed. Each episode will end with a 60 second feature: "The top 10 Ways PO Your Bartender" A different bar and bartender is featured and interviewed every episode, with a live caller line available.
It never was actually produced though, maybe eventually it'll happen.
Generous Time
The Bartender Blues Show needs to happen!
Meanwhile, today's "The Thinking Atheist" is a match to "It's a Wonderful Life".
Host Seth Andrews places phone calls to about 25 very needy people and listens to their difficulties, then explains that his program is sending them each $500 worth of help with no conditions or obligations.
It's a philosophy called "Humanism" in which humans care about other humans.
Makes ya cry.
