I have around 10,000 12" vinyl albums packed in cartons awaiting sale to a re-sell store, but when I see shelves of discs in their paper covers in movie scenes I get nostalgic and want to put my records on display.
I became dis-spirited when learning that none of my vinyl music could be played on my station without the expense of licensing. It's not fair.
Now we have tiny baskets full of thumb-drives. It's just not the same.
10,000! Where do you have room for this? Before you sell to a store that sells used vinyl convert to MP3s what you want.
I took months way back at the beginning of the 2000s with a vinyl to MP3 converter to get what I wanted to MP3 and that became over half my playlist today. Then I took boxes of 12 inch LP collections and 45s to a vinyl store here in Toronto and I got some money for them. Sad thing is not much money.
The difference is with a record you "have" it. It's physical, you can hold it your hand.
There's some sentimental value there. Not like a digital file.
I got rid of most of my albums and 45s way back when. Recently, I've started picking up stuff again, mainly 45s, from vintage stores.
Anyway, I did some measurements and calculations. A lot of my albums are box sets (classical/opera) but I measured out the length of 60 varied regular albums and came up with exactly 10 inches. Applying some simple math, 10000 albums equals 1666 inches (approximately) of vinyl or about 140 feet. LP's are a little more than 12 inches in height, so 13 inches. In a storage unit with 6 shelves (7 including the top, which would just cap it), you could fit 18 feet of albums (assuming 3 foot length shelves). You would require 8 such storage units to hold all those records.
The storage units side by side would be 24 feet plus whatever the width of the 2 ends in each is (multiplied by 12, so another foot or two).
Of course, I'm not taking into consideration that some are 45s. But you get the picture. That's a whole heck of a lot of vinyl. If you do put them on display, I hope you have reinforced floors.

I know a fellow named Ron, was a neighbor of mine in Saint Louis City. He owns a vinyl resale outfit. If you like I can pass along his number to you on private channels. Email me if you are interested.
