Well, I tried to post this last week and I believe that since I used a derivative of a naughty word in jest in my post, it didn't post and has been awaiting "moderation" for an entire week. So here it is again.
Decades ago due to a misprint in a Christmas advertisement, kids were encouraged to call and talk to Santa but the number actually went to CONAD (the forerunner of NORAD). The officer answering the phone assured the kids calling that Santa was on his way, and so it was back in 1955 they began tracking Santa. They still do today except it's all done on line and kids can watch Santa's travels on Christmas Eve on their iPads.
Back when I was a kid the radio carried NORAD reports of Santas arrivals. The stations I work for still broadcast these. In the 60's the reports were issued on phonograph records (the reports are the same year after year).
You can find dubs of the records online but they all sound scratchy. From deep in my archives of stuff, here are dubs from the original full track mono reel to reel tapes for your use and enjoyment. I have two different audio files. The first one is with no eq done to the recordings at all. These are from a nearly 65 year old reel to reel tape. The second one is the same tape but I've applied just a bit of eq to punch up the high end just a bit so it's a bit more clear. Enjoy.
