For the first time, we're going to be doing some special shows for New Years Eve and the New Year.
Sunday, we're going to have a one hour Dance Party Special, broadcast at 5PM, 8PM and 11PM Pacific, hosted by noted musicologist Jeff Bleiel.
We also have a special New Years Eve Teenage Dream, which will be broadcast Sunday at 11AM Pacific, and then repeated Monday at 2PM Pacific (hosted by me).
Should be a lot of fun.
It's a New Years thing to look back in time and think about where we've been and what we've done. In the department of new years celebration radio programming I recall many stations that held a New Years Eve Dance Party the way Artisan is doing. Music perfectly lends itself to being nostalgic because it acts as "memory pods" containing the emotions we experience as time goes by. My first such memory goes to the hit song "Patricia" by Perez Prado as I was dating a sweetheart named Patricia at the time. Her father was a city detective and always sat in view of Patricia and me as we held hands under a sofa pillow while I kept an eye on the handcuffs on his belt.
The radio networks often carried live broadcasts from hotel ballrooms featuring top bands from the day such as Fats Waller, Duke Ellington, Sammy Kay and many more.
Many of our programs from today bring us a "Best Of" show to look back over the year in news.
Popular OTR shows had New Years episodes, I'm guessing Jack Benny, Our Miss Brooks, and many more have those shows now to be fished out at the Internet Archive and other sources.
For us at KDX the Deutsche Welle Festival Concert sent a 2-hour Baroque Music Program with lively oldies by Bach and Vivaldi.
