Hi there! We're a new LPFM station just getting our system put together. We have a brand new PC running the latest Win10. We're getting this very strange error when we install ZaraRadio.

It appears to install just fine. When we go to open it we get the language selector. But after that, just as the spalsh loading screen appears, another window pops up saying "Error opening the mixer". The splash loading screen disappears, but nothing happens.<!--break-->

When we click the "ok" button in the mixer error window we get this Debug Alert:

"Error:
c:/wxWidgets-2.6.3/include/wx/dynarray.h(812): uiIndex < m_nCount

Please send to [email protected] the file ZaraRadio.RPT, which should be placed in the folder where you installed ZaraRadio. The information in that file will help us to fix the bug."

Here's what the ZaraRadio.RPT file includes:

"Version: 1.6.2
File: c:/wxWidgets-2.6.3/include/wx/dynarray.h  Line: 812
Cond: uiIndex < m_nCount

We have sent this on to the ZaraStudio folks, but given that we're using the free version we thought we'd see if other folks here had any ideas.

Like I said, we are running a brand new computer with a clean install of Win10, no bloat ware. Just running the Windows Defender security for now. We've tried disabling that security and reinstalling, but we get the same problem.

Any help or suggestions are appreciated!

Well, after much tinkering I figured this out. I'm posting it here because there seem to be others dealing with this and other posts I found weren't very clear or helpful.

The software wouldn't open until I plugged something into the audio out port!

I hadn't plugged anything in because I wasn't running it live and just wanted to play with the various features. As soon as I plugged in some headphones it opened right up with no problems.

I hope this healps someone else.

Very interesting, that's something I've never heard nor experienced before. Must be a Windows 10 thing. I was going to suggest removing Zara and reinstalling it.

I've can't really recall ever having even a hickup with Zara in ten years, but I've never had it on anything beyond Windows 7

Yes, if the designated source audio device is not found, ZaraRadio will not start.

I found this to happen when setup to use an external USB soundcard device.

If ZaraRadio is started before the USB device is started ZaraRadio errors out.

You have to make sure the external sound device is recognized before opening ZaraRadio.

In your case, these newer motherboard sound devices use auto-select with regard to input/output ports.  Until you plug in there is no device apparent to the application.
