Losing the Screen
A VGA switch exists between our XP machine and the Windows 7 (W7) machine.
For weeks at a time the XP screen is viewed remotely using TightVNC, but today I was experimenting and the TightVNC got turned off at the XP machine and needs to be turned back on.
But switching the VGA switch for the direct video output from the XP machine finds no screen whatsoever.
This happened before, and I know that re-booting the XP machine will bring back the screen, but it will also disrupt my Zara stream which I hope to avoid.
Maybe you know a way to re-ignite a computer screen that shuts itself off, possibly a keyboard combination?
Usually there's a toggle for the external VGA connection using Function Keys on laptops. It will rotate from internal screen to external screen to both. Are you using a laptop or desktop - your desktop screen should come right back on if plugged in.
The XP machine is a large desktop.
For now re-booting brings the screen back, and this time I know what caused the screen to vanish, so maybe I can avoid doing that again.
I searched in the "MS Helping Notes" and there is no description of a screen on/off toggle.
We're o.k. for now, so the firetrucks and EMS vehicles can return to the barn.
Thanks!
