I'm sure @mark will appreciate this one. Same story, but I can't help wonder who would ever actually spend $4,000 for one RCA cable??
Comparison of $4,000 boutique audio cable to $7 Amazon Basics cable shows audiophiles waste a lot of money — scientific audio equipment analysis with analyzer shows no difference in quality https://www.tomshardware.com/pc-components/sound-cards/comparison-of-usd4-000-boutique-audio-cable-to-usd7-amazon-basics-cable-shows-audiophiles-waste-a-lot-of-money-scientific-audio-equipment-analysis-with-analyzer-shows-no-difference-in-quality
... The RCA standard dates back to 1919, so it is over a century old, and audio enthusiasts connecting older analog gear like certain amplifiers, turntables, and legacy components will make most use of these cables ... .. Back to the $7 vs $4,250 RCA comparison and what we have pitted against each other here are the Amazon Basics 2 RCA cables, 4ft in length, that are actually on sale currently at $6.76 (and up to 15ft in length for $8.96). In the other corner, there are the Kimber Kable KS 1036 Select Series Analog Interconnect (Pair), which we can see at Safe and Sound (US) in 1m (3.3ft) length for $4,100. ...
.. It should hardly be a fair fight. .... ..
Using a constant 4 KHz sine wave transmitted through the cable, a tiny bit of distortion was observed with both cables. There was actually a bit more mains power noise seen with the Kimber cable, but “practically speaking, the two are identical,” Amir said, pondering over this first set of metrics.
Next, we saw the cables exhibit identical response across a very wide frequency range. There was no phase difference seen in the tests. Same with the square wave rise response graph. Even a hugely magnified graph from the Audio Precision analyzer shows that these two cables performed identically. ... ...
Ho can anyone be so brainwashed as to spend $4000 on a 3.3 ft audio cable. I use audio cables I get at a dollar store. If people can be so gullible as to fall for this they can be made to believe anything which explains all the conspiracy theories.
I checked this out and $4100 are for the cheap ones!!
I never knew this existed....you wonder when the science with these compared to the $10 ones show no difference.
Here's something, I wonder if these that go from the Cuthbert processor to the Decade MS-100 would make it sound better? 🤔
@mark I went to your link and it shows it priced at $2,399.00 USD. The article I linked to was published yesterday and I suspect it was based on this video published 4 days ago.. I watched the first few minutes of it in which he begins to criticize the cable and he says the special RCA connectors must have been made on a island of virgins somewhere is what justifies the price. He goes on talking how ridiculous it all is, but isn't he the one who paid $4,000 for it?
I ended up watching the rest of it. He's actually very interesting and seems to know what he's talking about. And yes, the article was based on this video (as it actually post it in the article! I had ignored the video the first time). He says there's actually audio cables that costing tens of thousands -- I can't wrap my head around it, it's like some surreal comedy sitcom, it seems too silly to be true.
He never did mention specifically where the cable from, he just said "this one cost $4,000 and 36 dollars or something, which gives me the impression he bought it himself.
@richpowers That example I sent was just something at random, just being sarcastic suggesting maybe I should try this so it will sound better. That was used by the way for that price!
I guess the ones that do the testing had to either buy it or got a donation for the testing.
There is several videos showing the same thing. The $10 ones are just as good.
@richpowers When I went to the website of Kimber Kables mentioned in the article I saw that you can spend up to $30,000 for RCA or 1/8" to 1/4 TRS to RCA or what have you. No joke.
There's an online Canadian HI FI shop that has audio cables for $3000 to $5000.
I didn't know this till now either. I knew the hi fi shops had ones for a few hundred dollars but not this. Insane.
@mark yeah, in the video he said there were $40,000 RCA patch cables. It's insane and kind of frighteningly comical.
