I wanted to know your opinion on having a
part 15 newsletter…

My idea is simple; we have quite a few websites out there, and I thought a bi-monthly newsletter; delivered via email would be a good
idea.

What could we put in the news letter? Well, just a ton of info! From new stations, to new products, to new websites, to new information, the list goes on and on.

Of course, I’d need some input to put it together, articles, pictures, opinions.

Let me know if you are interested in contributing to the newsletter and/or receiving it.

For those of you interested in getting a few stations on soon (and several of you are), I’m running a special sale on coils. Looks like most of you don’t mind building the antenna, but dislike building the coil.

It is true; the coil is kind of cumbersome, so for the next week, I’m sellling it for $20 bucks off….that is $65.00 shipping included while
the special supply of wire lasts. Just
thought I’d mention it, cause I have some extra time this week, and after this week, I won’t.
I several more to do this week and can only fit a couple more in.

What I’m concerned about are the advocates for LPAM situation involving becoming FCC Licensed.

Then the government steps in and requires
this that and the other thing and usually it’s costly and out of the reach of the average person.

If we could just get from 1 to 5 watts that
would be fine to cover a suburb or small town or village which has no
radio service. The other thing I wanted to share with you is that I
operate a part 15 low power station and use the Talking House Transmitter
with an ATU in which a 10 foot antenna is attached.

The ATU is actually
a variable tuning coil which matches the antenna to the transmitter
frequency. The tunning box also has a ground which I connected to about
65 horrizontal copper radials buried about three to 4 inches under the
earth.

My antenna is perched on a 60 foot pole.
I get out during the day about one and a half miles strong and another
1/2 mile weak.
I get out about 1/2 mile good at night. Take care and God Bless!

Here are some spec’s to keep in mind when designing kits…

Here are some spec’s to keep in mind when designing kits…

1) Transmitter should employ a Class “A” Modulator and a Class “E” Final.

2) Modulator Deck and RF Deck should be seperate from each other.

3) The RF Deck should employ a PLL using a TCXO reference.

4) The output tuning network should employ a High Voltage / High Impedance output like the Rangemaster and have a bypass circuit for users who would like to use a base loaded vertical such as Carl Van Orden’s.

5) The kit should offer the option of either unbalanced RCA Line level inputs or a +4db balanced 600 ohm input to match pro broadcast equipment.

6) The transmitter should not have extra built-in limiters or at a minimum the ability to bypass built-in limiting when using outboard limiting.

7) Transmitter should be capable of -99%/+130% modulation for that big station sound.

8) RF/Modulator decks should use metal boxes for sheilding.

9) RF Deck should feature a tuning meter to aid in tuning antenna and setting power output.

10) The final should be 100mw DC input in unmodulated state with the ability to be jumpered to 1watt.

11) Please publish complete manual in PDF complete with schematics. Manual should be well written like the SSTRAN manual.

12) Transmitter should be marketed and sold as a kit only to cut down on costs and would idealy cost in the $200.00 range.

I think these ideas should offer a good starting point to a quality transmitter design for somebody thinking about designing a new kit.
