The recent testing of the new AMT5000 with sub-standard antennas has prompted the beginning of the first KDX outdoor antenna project. Major decisions at the outset have included, 1.) where to bring the wiring out. This carefully selected spot on the side of the wall will be permanent, useable for all future outdoor wiring projects including lighting, cameras, loudspeaker, anything; 2.) where to erect the antenna itself, an unobstructed spot that will not itself become an obstruction as far as what goes on around it.
The answers to these questions have been found, and site clearing began today where vine-ground-cover is being cleared down to flat earth.
This installation will be done in a temporary style, removable after the transmitter testing.

After doing all the clearing work, it will be only for testing and then torn down???
Why not build the thing up so it becomes your much needed outdoor 3m stick?
Who says that it can never be used again to do further testing on other transmitters or built to become the permanent install?

Reason for Temporary
PhilB said the antenna should be at least 3-feet from the wall, and this is even better, being maybe 20-feet out. I chose the temporary spot because it is almost clear already and can be quickly worked with.
For a more permanent antenna I want to go way back about 100-feet, but that area needs a lot of clearing and the wiring will be a bigger project, so I am going for quick, close, handy.
After a fine weather day of making the ground totally open, the rain showed up and everything is on hold.
While indoors, I am winding a triangular shaped loading coil for the AMT3000.

All that rain should make that ground out there quite soft to be fairly easy to lay down a ground grid and pound in the ground rods. The permanent install should perform nicely!

At the very least 3 feet. More if you can. Because your working with loaded sticks, the inverse works to that stick in inductance reaction to external influences. The loaded stick acts like a magnet to influences that change its resonant point. So the further away from walls and objects the less influence will be acted upon the antenna and it will maintain its resonance point better.
Heck a thin tree limb swaying back and forth within the influence range of the stick will cause it to dance up and down from the resonant point like it was doing a rain dance. ;P
