RE: ANOTHER HOUR Thanks Carl … always waiting for a new one. Maybe some day I can do one.
I’m very busy with actual broadcasting and driving taxis. I’ve been trying to remember to take the netbook with me so I can do remote ferry reports and announcements, if I’m at the ferry landing or out at the resort.
I’ll broadcast this next Saturday. In case anyone is interested, I do an LPH episode 11:00am PDT every Sat. morning right after Zucchini Brothers and Free Speech Radio News.

Send a Cab Thank you Ken Norris for all you do.
As you may detect from this latest LPH, getting by with no guest is like falling into Tiny Harbor without a life-saving tire.
You will be a most welcome guest at the right future time.

The Latest Low Power Hour Carl! i really enjoyed your latest LPH.
Even though you didn’t have a guest,
I thought it was just as enjoyable as
the other ones. I love your sense of
humor. It reminds me of an early
morning radio personality that was
on our local WTIC AM 1080 here in
Hartford. His name was Bob Steele.
He first stated on WTIC announcing
sports in about 1936. Later on he
did morning drive, and kept doing
it until about 1990! Then after that,
he retired, but did a Saturday show
once a month (but not in the winter
time because he was away) until the
early 2000s, when he passed away
at age 91. His sense of humor was
very close to yours, I think.
There were a few things that stood
out in your last edition. Loved the
KA-OS radio sketch. I haven’t heard
it for decades and always thought it
was brilliant. You had a lot of good
tech info. The name of the law firm
you mentioned was very funny. Although
I can’t remember all of it, it had me
laughing pretty hard!
It was really cool to hear actual transmitted
audio from Bertrand’s station in Paris, France.
Funny thing – my son was in Paris last
year on a school trip. If he had brought
a radio…
Oh! And I want to see a picture of your
homemade microphone! It sure sounds
good.
Good job Carl! You cranked out another
entertaining program!

Carl Blare’s Humor and Bob Steele’s Humor: The Same Carl:
In order to support my theory that your
humor and Bob Steele’s style of humor
are similar or the same, depending on
how you look at it – check this out.
There is a 51 second video of Bob Steele
on YouTube. Just type in this:
marty1talk bob steele
That’s the number one between
marty and talk – not the letter “I”.
His video should appear at the top
of the page.
Note, his humor comes out at the end of
the clip.
It really reminds me of you. Again, Bob
Steele was on our local flamethrower
WTIC/1080 from about 1936 to about 2003.
I’ll have to check this, but I think at the peak
of his popularity, he had a million listeners each
day. All the other stations in Hartford were
behind him in the ratings for morning drive –
for decades and decades.
I hope you get a chance to check it out.

Did Check It Out Dear Bruce MICRO 1700 – –
Wow, I did check it out on Youtube and Bob Steele is fabulous, I really wish there was more. I found one other thing
But at archive.org, where public domain stuff ends up, found nothing.
Thank you so much for introducing us.

Gee! I didn’t know about that! Thanks Carl!
I have never seen that web page!
If I every find anything else from Bob Steele,
I’ll let you know.
I first remember listening to him at about
age 8, which would have been in 1962.
So, I guess he passed away in 2002. So,
I listened to his show for about 40 years.
Sometimes he would tell about his ride
in to do his show. This was of course
very early in the morning before the sun
came up. Every once in
a while, he would tune in some far away
station in his car radio while in transit.
Then he would actually mention the state
of the station on his show. I remember one
morning he said he had heard California.
It was probably KFI in Los Angeles on 640 (?).
He also made a big deal when WTIC went from
it’s night pattern back to it’s day pattern. He
would say, “OK everybody – get ready for the
antenna switch!” Are all of you antenna switchers
ready? OK gentlemen! Go ahead!” Then WTIC
would be off for about 8 seconds. When it came
back on he would say something like, “OK, the
antenna has been switched! Thanks you antenna
switching people. Today you did another great job!
I hope the antenna wasn’t too heavy! ”
The antenna switch segment became so popular that
advertisers started buying time DURING the antenna
switch! I would be sometime like, “So switch to Bert’s
oil! OK! The antenna is switched! OK! And remember to
get Bert’s oil too!
He was so popular that if you were on a crowded intersection
in a car at a stop light – and he told a funny joke –
you could look around at different cars and see
people in them all laughing! Everybody was listening to
his show!
Whoops, gotta run. If there are any misprints on this
I’ll try to fix them later.

Inheritance for MICRO1690/1700 Up very early this morning editing a program, and it came into my mind what you said about Bob Steele’s famous “antenna switching” events.
Then it occurred to me that, by coincidence, Bruce MICRO1690/1700 is a part 15er who has a unique antenna switching device to move from 1690 to 1700 at sundown…
Then it came to me that as the man who remembers the great switching days of Bob Steele, the entire privilege of carrying the switching torch should bequeath to Bruce MICRO1690/1700.
I know why I thought of all that. Ten minutes ago the station I’m listening to switched antennas, but they didn’t say a word about it. I just heard the characteristic carrier drop, background buzz, and carrier back on.
Shortwave stations switch antennas to, in order to aim in different directions, so maybe there’s a new project ahead of us.
