    Explain It Again
    Hello ABMedia1 –
You are getting streaming software, true? What kind of streaming software will you get?

Does “Magic Jack” provide both internet broadband and voice telephone service?

Do you know if it is a dial-up style internet or broadband, like DSL?

We have had DSL which was not reliable, and now have cable internet which has been reliable.

        Texas Temperature
I was talking to Texas yesterday and the temperature there was 106-degrees.

        Drink plenty of water.

          Magic Jack works for me
I have Magic Jack and it works fine for my wife and I.
It just uses the USB port on a computer connected to DSL or Cable internet. Nifty little device but can be aggravating if you use it on a computer that is used for more than a couple things.

It would be great to hook it up to a dedicated computer used only for Magic Jack and nothing else. But that i do not however use that phone number for the station, all calls for Rock 95.7 FM or IPR 90.1 FM go to my personal cell phone.

Magic Jack and Modems Don’t Mix
A friend used a Magic Jack for a while. Except that a Fax machine (and I suspect any dial-up modem) wouldn’t work, the voice calls seemed to work fine. Apparently the QOS wasn’t good enough for a modem to work properly.

He quit using it as he didn’t like to leave his computer on all the time and I think making a 911 call was a problem also.

        Enhanced 911
i have enhanced 911 on my cell phone and the vonage phone, so that wont be much of a problem for me.

Magic Jack not same as Vonage or Comcast Voip
I speak from personal experience. Magic Jack is only as reliable as your computer.

Vonage and Comcast Voip boxes connect directly to your Internet router, not your computer.

Magic Jack connects to your computer via USB and requires Magic Jack software drivers are running on your computer. If your computer is hosed, your phone doesn’t ring and your caller gets an answer form Magic Jack’s voicemail.

The whole thing is completely dependent on the stability of your computer. My experience has been a computer running Vista and on all the time. Magic Jack software drops out every few days. Computer reboot fixes it.

Magic Jack is a somewhat viable alternative when you have another primary phone like a cell phone, but it isn’t up to the requirements for a primary phone service.
