about 11:45 PM CDT a 2.6 earthquake ouccured in west central dallas county,texas and lot of people felt it around the area. if i still had my AM Station Still Operational the coverage would be bad and it would just kill my transmitter (as in coverage). the ground here is horrible the quakes in oklahoma state and around dallas would just make the ground worse and eventually i had to quit and due to the ground being so bad, i have houses foundations crippled so bad the whole houses collapse espically old houses, i’ve said it once and ill say it again!!!!… staring a part 15 AM Station Along the red river and west central grayson county is not a good place to start a AM radio station, the ground, the quakes, and just makes it no good to the point where it makes you frustrated!
Bad Ground?
I’m not so sure about a minor Earthquake Killing a Transmitter.
My AM was plugging around just fine.
Actually Believe it or not,
The Ground In North Texas And The Midwest is some of the best ground for AM. We Live in a very highly conductive area, this is a great place for AM.
Thats why all the AMs in the area get out 150-200 miles.
Take a peep at KJIM’s coverage, they get out great!
1 kW on 1500 and they go from Ada to Corsicana.
KKDA 730 AM running with 500 watts non directional gets to OKC.
other factors
i was talking the bad ground killing my trasmitter, the earthquakes can slowly overtime slowly made it worse for me espically when you live on a nearby a hill i must be on the wrong spot to put the antenna and ground there could have been and number of random physcilogically explainations why it just wasnt good for me but the small quakes living by a hill, the foundation, there can be alot of factor with my am problem sorry i didnt make thing clear on that blog jim.
until i can really figure out what is the problem is with my am i put am radio to the side

about 2 years ago just east of the city of tioga, we had a 3.0 (poorly consrained) quake i remember it on tv too. and i think that what started my am problem but im not too sure about it i know yall have different reason why the ground is so bad for my am station but i think that quake 2 years ago started this mess for me. after that quake, the ground rods werent getting properly connected to the ground after that, and i dont know how a small quake could do something like that (espically when its poorly constrained. im just as confused as yall are, it just happend just like that. i really need your opinions on this cause one day it was fine and then the quake happed and the am station went down south
Re-bury?
Did you try to re-bury the rods and pack em good?
Maybe try watering them so the ground becomes snug.
DRAUGHT AND GROUNDING
When I say draught, i am talking about a shortage of rainfall, but it looks like I’m thinking of “draft beer.”
Texas has had a long dry spell, which by itself causes the earth to crack and shift, and an earthquake thrown in, it seems to me, could absolutely make the ground rods loose and wobbly.
A hose and a lot of water might help, but that may not be a good idea in a water shortage.
Speaking of earthquakes, I am not aware of having had one lately here in the St. Louis area, but here are some incidents that make the idea come to mind.
About 3 PM today, for the second time in a week, my ears detected an extremely low frequency energy that lasted a few seconds, like it was below the lowest note on a pipe organ in church. The last time was 6 AM Aug 4. That COULD be seismic activity. Or a message from above.
THEN at 5:20 PM CDT just an hour ago the power abruptly took a dive with a very sudden burst, as if a huge discharge had happened, but then I was unsure of the discharge idea. The power flickered for a few seconds, then restored…. but withing minutes it dropped again, and recovered again.
I shut everything down for a security inspection. I could not find another person to ask if it was neighborhood wide, nor has my phone call been returned from across town. So I need to listen to newscasts and go to the power company website looking for clues.
Now everything is running in a normal way but there is a sense of instability in the old skeptical brain cell.
Carl i can sense storms and sesmic activity
i can sense storms and earthquakes coming when i was 4 i was diagonsed with high functioning autism a.k.a. Aspergers Syndrome, and ever since i was little can sense storms coming my way and can sense earthquakes coming, it just an autism gift.

i did do that, and then a 2 months later the antenna coil and tuning system was getting bad and going out and eventually just didnt workanymore, i do not know how that happend but it just happend, i paid a reasonable amount on the antenna and grounding rods but i just decided to put to the side because on march 24, 2009 we had severe storms and landspout tornadoes hitting loy lake park area and southwest denison what sucked for denison mostly that their outdoor air raid warning sirens where made in 1930’s 1 castle casting 2 gents of leicasters 3 sterlings 4 clms and 6 30 year old whelens most of them didnt work, so alot of people in denison didnt seeing the landspout coming and the electricity surged in west central grayson county, surging and killing my am transmitter and after that another landspout was at the grayson county airport and sounded off shermans air raid sirens for that tornado. so after that i decied to stick with FM for now.
to be honest with ya jim it was a “series of events” that killed my transmitter and antenna

Huh? Dallas quake? Please, tell me the day and time of that event. I have not heard about it.
And, with great interest to ABMedia1, I believe what you say about sensing weather and quakes, because I share some, but not all, of what you describe.
In the hours prior to intense storms all of my energy drains away and I become a limp, useless napper. Down and out.
Then when the storm bursts I feel fine.
But quakes I do not sense. They are always a surprise.
In any case, I think scientists hold on to a belief that they will find some way of predicting quakes, even though they admit not having found a way so far.

I hope they don’t come and get me for that.

Being Mobile
The great thing about our Part 15 stations is that unlike a full blown commercial operation, we can be very portable.
If a quake takes out an area, it wouldn’t take much to erect an antenna. Our transmitters and PC’s can run on batteries. Quite possibly in a rural area we may be the only broadcaster on the air.
A 10 foot antenna, a laptop with microphone and a Part 15 transmitter. Add a battery, solar pannel or a hand crank generator and wah-lah, we’re up and running.
So, I wouldn’t throw in the towel because I’m living in an earth quake prone area. Rather, I’d plan for a portable operation which could be the only station on the air.

North Central Texas and Oklahoma State is not considered Earthquake Country but north texas is considered hill country and if the land masses changes over time and energy need to be released, and thats how north texas and oklahoma state is getting tremors

But I was not making fun of you, ABMedia1. In fact, when I said I become very tired prior to a storm, it was no joke. It is true. And I said it as a way of agreeing that your senses are also very REAL and that such abilities do exist in some people and, I think scientists would agree, in some animals.
