Portable/Itinerant LPAM Operation

Posted on May 3, 2007

I am curious to know if anyone in the community has tried portable/itinerant LPAM operation using their SSTRAN (etc.) with a coil loaded antenna mounted on a vehicle. This is something that hams do all the time, and it seems like it could be a useful and fun thing to do at events like NASCAR, campouts, picnics, etc. In the U.K. they actually have special event radio stations (I think you have to apply for a license, though).

If you’ve tried this, I’d like to know the details of your antenna, whether you used only the body of the vehicle for your ground system or supplemented it with additional radials, and (of course, the #1 question) what kind of range did you get out of it?
